US-Präsident Barack Obama hat mit seiner Unterschrift neuen Sanktionen gegen den Iran Gesetzeskraft verliehen. Inmitten der jüngsten Spannungen zwischen Washington und Teheran treffen damit weitere Strafmaßnahmen die iranische Zentralbank und den Finanzsektor. Die Sanktionen sollen die iranische Führung wegen ihres umstrittenen Atomprogramms weiter unter Druck setzen. Der Iran begann unterdessen mit den angekündigten Raketentests.
US-president Obama signed new sanctions against Iran into law. Amid new tensions new restrictions hit the Iranian central bank and the finance sector. The sanctions are supposed to pressure the Iranian leadership due to its divisive nuclear program furthermore. The Iran meanwhile started the formerly announced missile tests.

Obama reluctantly signs defense bill
Washington (CNN) -- President Barack Obama on Saturday reluctantly signed a defense authorization bill, saying he was concerned about some in Congress who want to restrict options used by counterterrorism officials.
"I have signed this bill despite having serious reservations with certain provisions that regulate the detention, interrogation, and prosecution of suspected terrorists," he said of the $662 billion legislation.
The White House had lifted a veto threat against the bill after legislators made changes in language involving detainees.
