Jonathan Meador, Reporter, Films Own Occupy Nashville Arrest (VIDEO)
A reporter who was arrested during an Occupy Nashville Protest has posted video of his altercation with authorities. His employer says the video offers proof that the arrest was unlawful.
Jonathan Meador, who works for the alt-weekly Nashville Scene was arrested and charged with public intoxication, according to The Tennessean. Meador said he had one drink at dinner, but was not drunk, the paper reported.
In the video, troopers come up to Meador, who tells them "I'm a member of the media," and says "I'm getting off [of the plaza]."
Then Meador is presumably arrested, after which a trooper is heard saying, "Tell him when you get him up there to charge him with resisting arrest," to which another trooper responds, "Yes, sir."
Schaeuble was informed for weeks about 55 bio error
hi I just wanted to clear sth up from the weekend:
Cash&Chaos Corner: Germany: HRE got 55 bio € more than thought
Happy Banking Crisis! It's not only about kicking 700 or 800 bio Euros out of the window! No! It works the other way around as well. Mysteriously, the meanwhile nationalized Hypo Real estate was the vault of an unknown 55 bio €. Where exactly is this vault? Don't panic, it's more or less an imaginary vault. The balance sheets got misinterpreted and Hypo Real Estate is richer than thought. What drove certain dispicable German communist to the idea, that someone might have manipulated those balance sheets to drive a bargain of 55 bio euros. Very ugly. Nonetheless, super-cop Schaeuble is now looking for the responsible balance sheetzer.
Now DWD complained:
I am sorry, You might want to rewrite that for those of us who are not familiar with the situation.
I read it three times and still don't get it.
my answer:
Lately, the EFSF was founded. It is merely a system that provides financial guarantees within the EU. It amounts to guarantees of about 1 trillion or maybe 2 trillion euros for state bonds. So if Greece says, for example, we won't repay the bond, id est after 10 years depending on the respective bond for example, the EFSF will pay it. Germany has a stake of 211bio euros in this shield, so if Greece amasses 5 bio in the red and the EFSF got a net shield of 1 trillion, Germany will pay 1 fifth id est 1 bio.
Then again, there was a meanwhile nationalized German bank, called Hypo real estate, that took great effort in dealing southern European papers. There was again a special branch, called Hypo Alpes Adria , that was again specialized in doing the really bad stuff. They had enormous amounts of junk papers out of this region.
Now when this bank went bankrupt the current conservative german govt. did the same as Bush, they didnt have them go bankrupt but they of course paid. It is estimated that this bank had an internal drop in worth of 800 bio euros within 4 years. After being nationalized it was said that the bank was still worth 200 to 300bio,at least maybe, what was a joke in comparison to what it was worth before.
Now suddenly, the organization that is handling the remains of this bank, found that it had miscalculated and that Germany as such, simply and straight, is 55 bio euros richer than thought because value decrease wasn't this heavy, because, shortening what happened, the administration confused plus and minus.
SO, the joke is , you dont always put money into bankrupt banks. Sometimes they are even giving. See those 55 bio.

Germany is €55bn richer than it previously thought because of an accounting error at state-owned bank Hypo Real Estate Holding.
The mistake at "bad bank" FMS Wertmanagement, happened because collateral for derivatives wasn't netted between the asset and liability side, an FMS spokesman said. As a result, FMS will only contribute about €161bn to Germany's debt this year, down from €216.5bn in 2010.
Of the €55.5bn lower debt, €31 billion is for 2011, the remaining €24.5 billion is for 2010, the FMS spokesman said, adding that FMS Wertmanagement corrected the figures in its six-month earnings report.
As a result, Germany's 2010 debt-to-GDP ratio also drops, to 83.2% from the previous 84.2%, a finance ministry spokesman said.
The ministry spokesman didn't directly comment on the accounting error, but said "the German government welcomes the substantial progress FMS Wertmanagement has made in reducing the portfolio it took over from Hypo Real Estate (Euronext: SRE.NX - news) a year ago".
"In addition, it is positive that total assets, which include derivatives and hedging transactions, could be reduced by more than €30bn, or almost 10pc, compared with the 2010 results," the ministry spokesman added.

WASHINGTON — Lawyers for Jose Padilla, the US citizen arrested in 2002 for an alleged “dirty bomb” plot, launched an action to try to revive a lawsuit over his alleged torture at an American naval base.
Padilla, who is incarcerated at a high security jail in Colorado, previously sued in an attempt to hold former defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld and other US officials accountable for his suffering, but a district court judge granted the latter immunity and dismissed the case.
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), in a federal appeals court Wednesday, however, said the case should be reinstated as Padilla was imprisoned without trial for four years and subjected to a range of abuse.

Fraudster Bernard Madoff and wife 'attempted suicide'
The wife of jailed US financial swindler Bernard Madoff has said the couple attempted suicide after his $65bn (£41bn) fraud scheme was exposed.
Ruth Madoff told the CBS programme 60 Minutes the couple took a "bunch of pills" on Christmas Eve in 2008.
"I don't know whose idea it was, but we decided to kill ourselves because it was so horrendous what was happening," she said.
Madoff is serving a 150-year jail sentence after being convicted in 2009.
Ruth Madoff told CBS that the couple had made the suicide pact on Christmas Eve, which - she continued - added to "the whole depression".
"I took what we had, he took more," she said, adding that she did not drink any alcohol with them for fear of vomiting.

Germany: opposition enraged about (again) not existing tax-cuts (perhaps or sth.)
SPD: Schwarz-gelbe Koalition ist regierungsunfähig
The opposition accused the black-yellow Federal Government of inability
after the coalition summit in the chancellors office terminated without concrete results.
The coalition used up its supply of "things in common," explained Social dem parliament managing director Thomas Oppermann.
The coalition leaders postponed a decision about a tax cut among other things.
The party heads of conservatives and lib dems met nearly five hours on friday evening in the chancellor's office and then postponed themselves.
The coalition wants to meet again 6 November, in order to discuss over concrete measures about stabilization of growth.
The meeting was overshadowed by the controversy about a tax cut with a value of seven billion euros, which was announced by federal ministers of Finance Wolfgang Schäuble (CDU) and for economic affairs Philipp Rösler (FDP). Bavaria's boss Horst Seehofer had expressed he is annoyed about the publicity in advance and had made clear that the coalition hadn't yet decided about tax cuts.
The planned tax cut will be rediscussed, till then " different Models" are examined according to data from coalition sources . Which models such might be is (again) disputed.

The German Telekom intensifies its austerity course now in order to reach profit objectives. Reason is an unexpectedly weak new customer business, said Germany boss van Damme to
" Wirtschaftswoche.de". Still one month ago the Telekom had disclaimed a media report about stronger savings efforts.
" With the (current) customer increase we are not according to plan" , expressed van Damme. That is because of the increasing saturation of the market. In areas like the broadband connection the increase in new contracts is clearly lower compared with the previous years. "There begins a trend , which we had only expected in two, three years. We know thus the reason, however nevertheless we will stick to our ambitious goals ."

The Vatican on Thursday asked Hindus to fight "hateful propaganda" and allow Christians to practise their religion freely, in a message delivered to mark the upcoming festival of light, Diwali.
The message, signed by the head and deputy head of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious dialogue, Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran and Pier Luigi Celata, comes as the number of Christians persecuted in certain regions of India rises.
From the state of Orissa in the east to Kerala in the southwest, the conversion of Dalit or Untouchables to the Christian faith has sparked violence, with groups of extremist Hindus attacking Christians and their churches.
The letter also came a week before a meeting of religious leaders to be hosted by Pope Benedict XVI in Assisi in Italy. Seven Hindus, including Rajmohan Gandhi, the grandson of Mahatma Gandi, are expected to attend.

"This is the 37th anti-Christian incident in Karnataka since the beginning of the year - says Sajan K George, president of the Global Council of Indian Christians (GCIC) – it reflects the growing extremism in the country and it is an embarrassment for secular India."

L'Oreal heiress put under guardianship
L'Oreal heiress Liliane Bettencourt, 88, is to be placed under the guardianship of family members, the lawyer of her estranged daughter Francoise Bettencourt-Meyers said after a court hearing.
Billionaire Bettencourt, whose mental health is reportedly declining, will be placed under a grandson's guardianship and her wealth and property under that of her daughter Francoise and two grandsons, Charlotte Robbe-Phan said on Monday.
Bettencourt is on L'Oreal's board of directors but since family members are to be her guardians the court's decision should have little impact on the running of the cosmetics giant.
Bettencourt's lawyer Jean-Rene Farthouat said he would appeal the court's ruling, which remained in place pending the appeal process.
The Bettencourt mother and daughter have been at the centre of a very public feud over the fate of France's third-largest family fortune.

....Rajaratnam gets 11-year prison sentence
not 205 years 4 "imminent kidney failure"
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Raj Rajaratnam, a self-made hedge fund tycoon convicted in the biggest Wall Street trading scandal in a generation, was ordered to serve 11 years in prison, the longest sentence ever in an insider-trading case but far less than prosecutors sought.
Thursday's sentencing caps a prosecution, marked by secret wiretaps of Rajaratnam and his associates, that shocked the investment world. The Sri Lanka-born fund manager once stood atop a $7 billion New York hedge fund, but was found guilty of running a network of informants who supplied him with corporate secrets.
The sentence was lighter than the 19-1/2 year minimum term that prosecutors had sought, and was only slightly more than the 10 years handed down recently to a former Rajaratnam employee at the now-shuttered Galleon Group hedge fund.
The judge, in rejecting calls for a tougher sentence, said Rajaratnam, 54, faces "imminent kidney failure" due to advanced diabetes.

Cain’s proposals would help the wealthy and harm the rest of us, says Michael Tomasky.
V.I. Lenin: Now there was a fellow who thought ahead. He had five-year plans and seven-year plans by the bushel-full, and he never lost faith in the dialectic. Marx and science had provided the proof that it would all work out. We need that kind of constancy and can-do spirit in America today, I think you’d agree. Well, friends, we have it—in Herman Cain. His now-famous 9-9-9 tax plan is certainly as radical as anything Lenin ever proposed, although in the opposite direction. And more than that, it turns out to be (like communism itself) merely a stage in man’s development on the way to nirvana. Maybe I have been underestimating him.
Cain now actually leads the field in some new polls. One seems like a dodgy poll, in that it shows Newt Gingrich at 15 percent, which I doubt is accurate even among his extended family. But another is Wall Street Journal/NBC. There’s no denying—Cain is riding the wave. He’s a nice feel-good candidate, an indulgence, an escape hatch from the disappointment of Rick Perry and the tedious (seeming) inevitably of Mitt Romney—and finally, a way for Tea Partiers to say, “See? We’re not racists!” In all those senses he has a lot going for him. But now his plan has started to face serious scrutiny, and that scrutiny is revealing that it’s undoubtedly the most radical shift of wealth that a presidential candidate has proposed in this country since (speaking of communists) Gus Hall.

Usually it is only a formality to get approval for the report of action of the Italian govt by the Italian parliament. But Berlusconi failed for the resistance of Italys opposition - because there is resistance in the own camp and because several ministers were absent during the vote. Homeland Security Chair Calls Occupy Wall Street Protesters 'Ragtag Mob,
"The fact is these people are anarchists. They have no idea what they're doing out there," King said. "They have no sense of purpose other than a basically anti-American tone and anti-capitalist. It's a ragtag mob basically."
Well, I think the discussion about communism in the US is a bit older than Mr King thinks. It's actually older than communism: from the biography of Mr.Jackson:
The Second Bank of the United States was authorized for a twenty year period during James Madison's tenure in 1816. As President, Jackson worked to rescind the bank's federal charter. In Jackson's veto message (written by George Bancroft), the bank needed to be abolished because:
* It concentrated the nation's financial strength in a single institution.
* It exposed the government to control by foreign interests.
* It served mainly to make the rich richer.
* It exercised too much control over members of Congress.
* It favored northeastern states over southern and western states.
* Banks are controlled by a few select families.
* Banks have a long history of instigating wars between nations, forcing them to borrow funding to pay for them.
Following Jefferson, Jackson supported an "agricultural republic" and felt the Bank improved the fortunes of an "elite circle" of commercial and industrial entrepreneurs at the expense of farmers and laborers. After a titanic struggle, Jackson succeeded in destroying the Bank by vetoing its 1832 re-charter by Congress and by withdrawing U.S. funds in 1833. (See Banking in the Jacksonian Era)

$120B deal on stricken Dexia bank
(Financial Times) -- Belgium's nationalisation of the domestic operations of Dexia was formally agreed in the early hours of Monday by the bank's board of directors and the Belgian government, along with state guarantees worth €90bn ($120bn) to finance the rest of the group.
Brussels will pay €4bn to take over Dexia Bank Belgium, which includes a large retail bank in a group which is otherwise focused on lending to local governments. The forced divestment is the first step in the dismembering of the Franco-Belgian bank after it fell victim to a liquidity squeeze prompted by the eurozone debt crisis.
China's Jiang makes rare appearance
Beijing (CNN) -- China's former President Jiang Zemin appeared in Beijing on Sunday, the first time he's been seen publicly since rumors surfaced months ago that he had died.
Jiang, 85, was among many current and former dignitaries attending a ceremony marking the 100th anniversary of China's 1911 revolution, which led to the toppling of the Qing Dynasty. China became a Communist state in 1949, under the leadership of Mao Zedong.
At the start of the ceremony at the Great Hall of the People, live footage on China's state-run television showed Jiang for a few seconds as he walked on the stage, closely followed by an assistant.

Cantor ‘concerned about growing mobs’ at Wall St.
Cantor has now expressed his distance towards people who take their anger to the street. It's probably too direct. Half-day blurbing behind a microphone about those guys gains (furthermore) sociapath points. Important in a party of Karl Rove and Blush Blimbo.
RBS downgraded
Moody's on Friday downgraded its credit ratings for a dozen British lenders, including state-rescued Royal Bank of Scotland and Lloyds TSB, due to the removal and curtailment of government financial support.
Looks like the tories got some guys at RBS and Lloyds who like to lynch them because they are not so eager as Bush to provide rescue measures.

'Occupy Wall Street' protests spread
New York (CNN) -- A mix of protesters gathered again Friday in cities across the country, decrying a loosely defined list of financial problems and mixing in places with others marking the 10-year anniversary of the U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan.
Demonstrators in New York and Washington appeared to congregate over both the Afghan conflict, arguably America's longest war, and in protest against the widening disparities between rich and poor and corporate greed, among other grievances.
New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said an investigation is under way after protesters claimed officers used excessive force when corralling demonstrators earlier this week.
He also noted that demonstrations had cost tax payers $1.9 million in overtime costs for the city's law enforcement.

Russischer Abstellwitz: Wowereit will unbedingt nach Treptow
After 25000 surveillance flights for the air force over the GDR, Wowereit is finally allowed to coalate with the right partner.
Also in erster Linie ethische Gruende.
in English:
Wowereit has himself rechristened Bilfinger-Berger. Why? Ahrdalebridge was already sold out. It's a pity though: it's so nervy, to have to swim to the other side (of river Spree) forever. So, mainly ethical reasons.
