Former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld has been stripped of legal immunity for acts of torture against US citizens

Welcome to Your Worst Nightmare, Mr. Rumsfeld. You Are Under Arrest!

Former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld has been stripped of legal immunity for acts of torture against US citizens authorized while he was in office. The ruling shed new light on Rumsfeld as he began his book tour this week with a visit to Boston. New, uncensored photos of Abu Ghraib have sparked fresh outrage across Internet. Awareness is growing that Bush-era crimes went far beyond mere waterboarding. Republican Senator Lindsey Graham told reporters in 2004 of photos withheld by the Defense Department from Abu Ghraib, "The American public needs to understand, we're talking about rape and murder here...We're not just talking about giving people a humiliating experience. We're talking about rape and murder and some very serious charges." And journalist Seymour Hersh says: "Boys were sodomized with the cameras rolling. And the worst above all of that is the soundtrack of the boys shrieking that your government has." Major General Antonio Taguba, who led the official Army investigation into Abu Ghraib, said in his report: "There is no longer any doubt as to whether the [Bush] administration has committed war crimes. The only question is whether those who ordered the use of torture will be held to account."

Harrowing evidence in Conrad Murray trial

The man who called emergency services to Michael Jackson's house gives harrowing testimony in the trial of Jackson's doctor, Conrad Murray. FULL STORY

Los Angeles (CNN) -- The man who called 911 to Michael Jackson's house the day he died testified Thursday that Dr. Conrad Murray told him to gather up drug vials around Jackson's deathbed before he asked him to place the emergency call.

The two paramedics who responded with an ambulance, and Jackson's chef are expected to testify later Thursday in the third day of Murray's involuntary manslaughter trial.

Deputy District Attorney David Walgren blamed Murray for Jackson's death, saying he abandoned "all principles of medical care" when he used a makeshift intravenous drip to administer the surgical anesthetic propofol to put Jackson to sleep every night for more than two months.

The coroner ruled that Jackson's June 25, 2009, death was the result of "acute propofol intoxication" in combination with sedatives.

A Massive Union Just Voted To Side With The Occupy Wall Street Protesters

According to Daily Kos, The New York Transit Workers Union (TWU) voted to support the Wall Street Protestors at their meeting last night. A member of TWU Local 100 told a reporter that they would join the protest Friday at 4 p.m. The TWU has four main divisions: Railroad; Gaming; Airline; Transit; and Utility, University and Service. The Union has 114 autonomous locals representing over 200,000 members and retirees in 22 states around the country. Occupy Wall Street has been picking up some decent support from unions in the past few days. Yesterday we reported that the Teamsters Union declared their support for protestors, and we also found out that the United Pilots Union had members at the protest demonstrating in uniform. Today we learned the Industrial Workers of the World put a message of support on their website as well. That's good for the protestors, sure, but the bottom line is whether or not these unions can produce bodies. Experience says that when they want to, unions can be quite good at doing that very thing. And it seems that they're interested. In many of their statements of support, they say that their members are part of "The 99%" that Occupy Wall Street protestors keep talking about.

China Space Station: Tiangong-1 Experimental Module Launched

aol-huffpost

BEIJING — China launched an experimental module to lay the groundwork for a future space station on Thursday, underscoring its ambitions to become a major space power over the coming decade.

The box car-sized Tiangong-1 module was shot into space from the Jiuquan launch center on the edge of the Gobi Desert aboard a Long March 2FT1 rocket.

It is to move into an orbit 217 miles (350 kilometers) above the Earth and conduct surveys of Chinese farmland using special cameras, along with experiments involving growing crystals in zero gravity.

China then plans to launch an unmanned Shenzhou 8 spacecraft to practice remote-controlled docking maneuvers with the module, possibly within the next few weeks. Two more missions, at least one of them manned, are to meet up with it next year for further practice, with astronauts staying for up to one month.

Castro: Obama Is 'Stupid'

aol-huffpost

"Many things will change in Cuba, but they will change through our efforts and in spite of the United States. Perhaps that empire will fall first," Castro added, a reference to the United States.

Castro wrote glowingly about Obama when he was elected in 2008, saying, "The intelligent and noble face of the first black president of the United States since its founding two and one-third centuries ago as an independent republic had transformed itself under the inspiration of Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King into a living symbol of the American dream."

But Castro has increasingly shown disillusionment as Cuban-U.S. relations remain in a deep freeze, despite measures undertaken by Obama allowing more remittances and travel to the island.

I still remember when Engholm and Vogel trashed Kohl for weeks for the membership of Alexander Schalck-Golodkowski in his party. Well, Kohl had held some hands out and - lifted sometimes the wrong one. It was totally absurd though to lambast Kohl for weeks for Schalck Golodkowski. Merkel is in a similiar position. I think if she goes off course now, she wont announce Leninism in Germany. I think it is an utterly stupid move of Germanys social dems. Though, hey, squinting is not a crime. There are elections in Bavaria soon.

Washington (CNN) -- Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani, the head of a network of Christian house churches in Iran, could be executed as soon as midnight Wednesday in Tehran for refusing to recant his religious beliefs and convert to Islam, said the chair of a commission that monitors religious freedom around the world.

A statement by the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom, an independent advisory group appointed by the president and Congress, "expressed deep concern" for the man's fate.

After four days of an appeals trial for apostasy, Nadarkhani refused to recant his beliefs.

Great Britain sees itself confirmed in its decline of the common Euro currency for the hefty crisis in the Euro zone. Foreign secretary Hague made clear with striking words that the London govt doesnt think too well of the Euro. The Euro course of the govt Cameron is becoming more critical. One feels reminded of Ms. Thatcher.

Ms Thatcher is back in the political business of Great Britain. No, the 86-year-old conservative politician is not back in Downing street - no, she is too ill for it. No, Maggies spirit is gliding again through the rooms and floors of the London govt district. There is some euro-hostile shouting back near the Themse like it occured during the times of the iron lady , topping: marky remarks of govt members.

Foreign secretary Hague now thinks the time has come to - according to his year-long mentor - go to battle against the Euro and the Eurozone as a whole. 'It was a burning house without exit' the chief diplomat of her royal highness mocked. The 17-country euro-union 'was some kind of historic monument of collective insanity.' The old lady from Grantham couldnt have put it more drastically. Viva the pound Sterling.

Meritless old school lackers, German voters r 2 stoopid 4 German lib dems

German NTV

Suffering from the souwt bigotry of low expectorations, Germany's voters seem to have a certain difficulty voting lib dem, currently. This phenomenon seems to have been observed by the lib dems recently. Their analysis yielded the following deceissive results: the average German voter is simply too stoopid to discern the advanced advantages of voting lib dem.

1,8% in Berlin, a disaster of appearing unique, brawls throughout the party. But still: the voter is guilty for the decay of the lib dems. At least that is what Dirk Pfeil thinks. Dirk Pfeil is the head of Hessia's lib dems. Asked for the outcome in Berlin, Dirk (Arrow) told 'Frankfurter Neue Presse' (Frankfurt new press) , the mass was too uneducated to understand the msg of his party.

"It is disastrous, that the majority of the population did not enjoy (participate in) political education. The majority does not opine, it cannot speak."

Thus, according to (Pfeil), the lib dems were no peoples party.

Concerningly, the ecos in Hessia accuse Pfeil of a lack of self reflexion.

Fuerthermore, there is a book out about the life of the head of the lib dems

German NTV

Angela Merkel sees a bit of herself in Philipp Rösler . "His life is one of the most unusual biographies of a German politician," the chancellor said in regard of his birth in Vietnam and the ascent to the vice-chancellor. "Also, the German unity causes 'unusual biographies,'" Merkel continues, and physicists found the way into the politics. Laughter in the hall (Merkel is one too), the allusion to the own life is understood. And also with the search for a political homeland, similarities to the own biography exist. Roesler had a look around after the wall fell among the parties. The Jusos were too Marxist and social-theoretical , the Greens still far left, however Rösler regarded the conservatives and their youth organization as too narrow-minded and adapted. Thus he went for the young liberals in 1991, Merkel became one year earlier a member of the conservatives.

Today they govern together the black-yellow coalition, and the chancellor came into the catholic academy in Berlin, to present 'the first Biography' about the FDP head. "Philipp Rösler. A Portray." It's the work of the journalist Michael Bröcker, director/conductor of the parliament editorship of " Rhinania Post" in Berlin. The sub-title " Faith. Homeland. FDP" seems to be unusual for a lib dem politician, likewise the catholic holy Benno publishing house for a book concerning a liberal. But this strong faith concept obviously corresponds to Röslers conceptions, and it was his explicit desire to present the book in the house of the German bishop conference. Some days ago the pope was around.

Rösler has a conservative lifestyle, that is the result of the biography. The church/faith and the homeland term played an unusually central role for the FDP politician. Due to his early rootlessness for Rösler stability and harmony played an important role in his private life, in addition, in policy. "He is not an extreme politician," Böcker says. 2 stir big fuzz is not enabled by his biography. Rather a Prussian obligation , which is caused - as he describes in detail in his book - by his father and growing up in the German Armed Forces 'surroundings.' But, then, a further result, Bröckers reads, one should not underestimate the FDP head. Behind the nice Mr. Rösler is some consciousness for might.
"Thus we as political journalists will still have to work with Mr.Roesler."

No extremist, a pragmatist concerning policies, an underestimated "might" being - Merkel and her vice may feel connected here as well. In order to characterize Rösler, the chancellor selected four quotations from him. " Main thing is, you are bein loved" what Merkel coins on Röslers father, his hometown Bueckeburg and the FDP. " Where he sucks his power from," the chancellor says. Quotation number two: " The faith is my internal compass." Who believes, admits not to know everything says Merkel. Faith teaches humility - and pleases the protestant Merkel. Still better she regards however the third quotation out of the book : " I did not enter, because the FDP promised tax cuts." Rösler had more of an issue, explains the chancellor, "living together in a free society." And also the CDU boss wipes the picture of the nice politician aside. Who ascended in the FDP so fast so high, godda be "homo politicus" .
"Who underestimates Rösler, has already lost," as she quotes his political father Walter Hirche.

The fourth quotation finally, which was selected by Merkel, is at the same time a wishful prognosis for the black-yellow Federal Government. " The bamboo bends itself in the wind and storm, but it doesnt break" , she quotes the FDP head. That is nevertheless a good condition for the remaining legislative period.

Indeed: If one could win the impression in view of the discussion around the euro-emergency parachute, the govt would terminate, they presented themselves - chancellor and vice- harmoniously today, sometimes even a funny duo, which couldnt be bothered. Such a chat hour causes naturally more fun than the hard struggle for the euro-aid. Even if Merkel makes small jokes at the expense of her vice, approximately as she calls Rösler her" special case" and she narrates in memory of their first meeting in the chancellor bungalow: " There he emerged and he was suddenly health expert." But Rösler was noticeable, " nice, fixed and quickl". And if distrust in politics is important, " Confidence can rewarded ". Both had fumbled to make ends meet anyway.

Occupy Wall St.' is ‘the hope of America’

The pope was in Germany, again. So what?

Well, first up I'm not catholic but evangelical, Saxon Hungenots and some Swedish in my family.Secondly, hillariously, the pope announced to share the last supper with orthodox christians (before hell probably gets crucified by the Roman empire). Well, I think this point was really a downturn for me. First up he travels to Erfurt, to the home town of Luther, but the sorry ship happens. Then in Freiburg, he announces his allegiance to orthodox Christians.

Well, Hitler was catholic, Himmler was catholic, and the other super-Arians as well, so I'm still thinking what evangelicals did do wrong exactly despite WIlliam stood by his alliance with the stupid Austrians at the start of ww1.

Ratzinger is more than boring, his speech in front of parliament wasn't too dynamic, he demanded more belief, what eventually appeared as a sorry excuse for a lack of truth.

Well, Turkish prime Guel was obviously on the way home again, otherwise he could have invited him for a glimpse on Mekka I guess. Ratzinger visited Turkey already pretty quick, and in fact all beliefs despite the evangelicals announced their TOTAL CUSTOMER SATISFACTION with the pope visit in Germany. He could add some Ablass leaflets to his next proclamation exegese in German parliament.

Texas toast? Perry worries GOP

yahoo

ORLANDO – The first line of Rick Perry’s campaign obituary may have been drafted Thursday night: He got in too late.

It’s not quite time for his camp to panic but in his third debate in a month – nearly as many as he’s done in the entire decade he’s served as Texas governor – Perry demonstrated why so few presidential candidates who parachute into the race mid-campaign win the nomination.

Perry gave a foreign policy answer that offered no indication he’s thought about how to respond to threats against America, twice bobbled attacks on Mitt Romney’s well-documented departures from conservative orthodoxy, called immigration hard-liners heartless and, in what was otherwise his best answer of the evening, stretched the truth in the course of delivering a well-rehearsed line about why he mandated pre-teen girls to be vaccinated against HPV.

Faster than light

Rawstory

PARIS — Physicists reported Thursday that sub-atomic particles called neutrinos can travel faster than light, a finding that -- if verified -- would blast a hole in Einstein's theory of relativity.

In experiments conducted between the European Centre for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Switzerland and a laboratory in Italy, the tiny particles were clocked at 300,006 kilometres per second, about six km/sec faster that the speed of light, the researchers said.

"This result comes as a complete surprise," said physicist Antonio Ereditato, spokesman for the experiment, known as OPERA. "We wanted to measure the speed of neutrinos, but we didn't expect to find anything special."

Scientists spent nearly six months "checking, testing, controlling and rechecking everything" before making an announcement, he said.

nasdaq

chart

Fewer Americans applied for initial jobless claims in the September 17 week though today's report is mixed. The week-to-week change, at minus 9,000, is a good indication but the 423,000 level is 3,000 higher than the Econoday consensus and reflects a 4,000 upward revision to the prior week to 432,000. Another negative is the fifth straight rise in the four-week average, though the latest gain is minimal to 421,000 vs a revised 420,500 in the prior week. Still, a look back to mid-August shows the four-week average at 403,500 in a comparison that points to trouble for the September employment report.

S&P downgrades 7 Italian banks

ap-yahoo

ROME (AP) — Standard & Poor's said Wednesday that it had downgraded seven Italian banks because of sovereign debt risk, a day after the agency downgraded Italy's credit rating.

The cut targeted leading banks Mediobanca SpA and Intesa Sanpaolo SpA, as well as Findomestic Banca SpA, Banca IMI SpA, Banca Nazionale del Lavoro SpA, Banca Infrastrutture Innovazione e Sviluppo SpA and Cassa di Risparmio in Bologna SpA.

The agency said it was assigning negative outlooks to the long-term ratings on these seven banks. It was also revising its outlooks from stable to negative on eight other Italian banks, including Unicredit.

"The negative outlooks on the long-term ratings on the 15 banks reflect the possibility that we could lower their ratings, all other things being equal, should we further lower our ratings on the Republic of Italy," S&P said in a statement.

Italian lenders’ non-performing loans rose 1.3 percent in July from June, the country’s banking association ABI said.

Israel Has Dumped 46 Percent of Its U.S. Treasury Bills; Russia 95 Percent

Russian ownership of U.S. Treasury bills peaked at $73.15 billion in March 2009 and had declined to $3.7 billion by July. Israelis have also been decreasing their ownership of U.S. government debt. Total Israeli holdings of U.S. Treasury securities peaked at $22.0 billion in April 2010. That had dropped to $17.2 billion by this July, a decline of about 22 percent. Like the Russians, the Israelis have dramatically decreased their ownership of short-term Treasury bills, according to Treasury Department data. Israeli ownership of Treasury bills peaked at $15.638 billion in March 2009 and declined to $8.375 billion in July, a drop of about 46 percent. Entities in mainland China countered the worldwide trend, and reversed their own previous trend, by increasing their holdings of U.S. government debt in recent months.

Moody's Downgrades BofA, Well Fargo, Citigroup On Fears U.S. Wouldn't Aid Banks [UPDATE]

Bank of America Gets (More) Bad News

Moody's Corp on Wednesday cut the debt ratings of Bank of America Corp, Wells Fargo & Co and Citigroup Inc, three of the largest U.S. banks, on worries the government would be less likely to support a large lender if it got into trouble.

The government is "more likely now than during the financial crisis to allow a large bank to fail should it become financially troubled, as the risks of contagion become less acute," the ratings agency said.

The action concludes a three month review that began in June when the ratings agency said the banks faced a potential downgrade.

Moody's downgraded Bank of America's long-term senior debt rating to "Baa1" from "A2" and its short-term debt rating to "Prime 2" from "Prime 1."

Moody's said the long-term outlook on the bank's senior ratings remains negative.

Bank of America shares were down 3 percent at $6.69 after the announcement. Citigroup shares declined 0.1 percent at $26.89 and Wells Fargo shares were up 1 percent at $24.92.

So, lets compare Massachusetts upgrade and Italy downgrade

First, the subjective view: If you look at Grossman, he is compact and less difuse than Berlusconi. He is obviously somehow a politician and doesnt cry foul about political involvement in certain decisions. So, that's the implication of all possible input towards a certain output.

The more objective view leads to the idea that you have to have a pretty unique approach as well. The decisions shouldn't appear hasty but well thought and apply to principally everybody to sustain growth, regardless whether it is health reform or pension reform. And having some controlled surplus input into a stabilization fund is as well guarantee that in case of a sudden downturn there are still means of rescue.

Berlusconi's policies containing a certain degree of decay gave him the rogue touch he is now suffering from. I guess Berlusconi's biggest problem will be to represent a serious political figure within 6 months. Otherwise I guess it will be AAA for MA and Caa1 for Italy.

S&P downgrades Italy

Standard & Poor's cut Italy's credit rating, citing the nation's weakening economic growth.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Standard & Poor's Ratings Services cut Italy's sovereign credit rating late Monday, saying the nation's weakening economic growth and political uncertainty have dented its financial stability.

S&P now rates Italy's credit at A, down from A+, and kept its outlook on the country as negative, the agency said in a report issued Monday.

"The downgrade reflects our view of Italy's weakening economic growth prospects," S&P said. "Italy's fragile governing coalition and policy differences within parliament will likely continue to limit the government's ability to respond decisively to the challenging domestic and external macroeconomic environment."

S&P downwardly revised its estimates for Italy's GDP growth to an annual average of 0.7% between 2011 and 2014 -- a far cry from its previous projection of 1.3%.

Latvian govt talks start after Russian party wins vote

Toronto Star

RIGA (Reuters) - Latvian politicians begin talks on forming a new government on Sunday, after a party backed by the large Russian minority won most votes in a snap election that broke the power of business "oligarchs".

In second place was a new party formed by the ex-president, who forced the vote in a corruption row less than a year after the last election. Along with the third-placed party of current Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis, it aims to form the core of a new coalition.

Russian minority party Harmony Centre, winning an election for the first time in the ethnically-split Baltic nation, said it should not be left out of the new administration.

"I am convinced that Latvian politicians ... will be able to form a coalition where the interests of all voters are represented," Harmony Centre leader Nils Usakov, 35, said on LNT commercial television.

The president is responsible for nominating the prime minister. He has said he will only do that after Sept. 28, when he returns from a trip to the United States, giving the parties time to come to an agreement on a coalition.

Results from 909 of 1,027 polling districts showed Harmony Centre, which has portrayed itself as the sole centre-left option, on 29.5 percent of the vote.

It's the latest development in a long-running sex scandal. Transcripts of some of 100,000 wiretap recordings made between September 2008 and 2009 were filed with a court in the southern city of Bari Friday, as prosecutors wrapped up a three-year prostitution investigation.

The transcripts reveal that Berlusconi and businessman Gianpaolo Tarantini repeatedly discussed bringing women to parties.

Berlusconi calls Merkel an "unfuckable lard-arse:" reports

Italian premier Silvio Berlusconi reportedly called German Chancellor Angela Merkel an "unfuckable lard-arse" during a wiretapped conversation, the Independent of London reports.

Investigators overheard the remarks during a July phone conversation between Berlusconi and the man accused of supplying prostitutes to the prime minister's parties, the Independent states. Berlusconi used the Italian phrase, "culona inchiavabile," reports the Atlantic.

Investigators were searching for evidence against the prime minister regarding a number of charges including corruption, Germany's The Local reports.

“If the rumors are true, which are not only circulating in journalist circles but also in parliament, that the Prime Minister has spoken about Merkel in an unspeakable, unpronounceable, unacceptable way, the situation would be dramatic. Someone who has reached out their hand to us would be spat at in the face," Italian MP Rocco Buttiglione told parliament, according to The Local.

Denmark final

SNA

Denmark's center-left has won the country's general election, turning Social Democrat leader Helle Thorning-Schmidt into the country's first woman prime minister, BBC reported.

With all votes counted, the centre-left bloc won 89 seats in Denmark's 179-seat parliament against 86 for the centre-right. Turnout was high at 87.7%.

"We did it... today we've written history," Thorning-Schmidt told jubilant supporters.

She is a former MEP (member of the European Parliament) and is married to Stephen Kinnock, son of British Labour Party politicians Neil and Glenys Kinnock.

Incumbent Lars Lokke Rasmussen has admitted defeat.

US2012 - the attitude

Texas Gov. Rick Perry has been taking a lot of heat over some of the more controversial claims made in his 2010 small government treatise Fed Up! Our Fight To Save America From Washington.

The book is a fiery, anti-Washington treatise that lays bare Perry's ideas on the dangers of federal overreach and the primacy of the 10th Amendment. Incredulous pundits and reporters are heralding it as a virtual gold mine of opposition ammo for any 2012 candidate — Republican or Democrat — looking to torpedo Perry's White House bid.

In some ways, they are probably right. In the book, Perry affirms the death panel myth, lambastes, and calls Social Security a "Ponzi scheme" — and that's just a few of his incendiary claims.

Denmark's opposition appeared headed for victory

yahoo.de

COPENHAGEN - Denmark's opposition appeared headed for victory in a national election, signalling a shift to the left after 10 years of pro-market reforms and ever-stricter controls on immigration.

Updated exit polls released by broadcasters TV2 and DR as voting stations closed Thursday predicted a majority in the 179-seat Parliament for the left-leaning opposition led by Social Democratic leader Helle Thorning-Schmidt.

TV2 gave her "red bloc" a seven-seat advantage over the centre-right government coalition led by Lars Loekke Rasmussen. The DR exit poll, which didn't count the four seats allocated to the semiautonomous territories of Greenland and the Faeroe Islands, had the opposition winning by five seats.

If that outcome stands, Thorning-Schmidt would become the first woman to head a Danish government.

Danes on Thursday voted the centre-left into power after a decade in opposition, ushering in the country's first woman prime minister, according to two exit polls published as polling stations closed.

Both exit polls, published by public broadcaster DR and TV2 television, suggested voters had handed the left-leaning opposition headed by Helle Thorning-Schmidt, 44, an absolute majority in parliament, ousting Prime Minister Lars Loekke Rasmussen's centre-right government.

Palin: extra-marital affair, illegal drug use

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is about to get another round of intense press coverage.

Author Joe McGinniss, who has been studying Palin for three years and even moved next door to her home to dig up dirt, describes in his book an extra-marital affair, illegal drug use and much more.

“The Rogue: Searching for the Real Sarah Palin” will not be released until September 20, but The Daily Mail reports on a few of the more shocking details that it contains.

McGinniss’ book reportedly describes that Palin had a sexual ‘fetish’ for black men and had a one-night stand with Miami Heat player Glen Rice while dating future husband Todd Palin. Rice is said to have confirmed the encounter to the McGinniss.

The book also contains claims that the former governor married her husband only after being impregnated, saying that her first child, Track, was born eight months after the wedding.

Rogue trader suspected in $2 billion loss at UBS

LONDON (AP) — Swiss banking giant UBS said Thursday that a rogue trader has caused it an estimated loss of $2 billion, stunning a beleaguered banking industry that has proven vulnerable to unauthorized trades.

Police in London said they arrested a 31-year-old UBS trader, Kweku Adoboli, in the alleged fraud. UBS declined to confirm his name.

Switzerland's largest bank warned that it could report a loss for the entire third quarter as a result of the rogue trade, while shares in UBS AG plummeted 8.7 percent to 9.98 francs ($11.41) on the Zurich exchange by mid afternoon.

The case immediately evoked memories of Jerome Kerviel, the trader at French bank Societe Generale who secretly gambled away €4.9 billion ($6.7 billion). The scale of that fraud rocked the global financial industry and prompted banks to tighten oversight rules to ensure such large sums couldn't be traded unnoticed.

Berlusconi makes the flit

Rather in EU Parliament than in front of court

Fuzz and protest in the European parliament before a hastily planned visit of the Italian head of government Berlusconi: It's called a trick only "trucco" , in order to evade a statement in front of court in connection with his sex affairs.

The Italian prime Berlusconi is being expected in European parliament on tuesday afternoon - the day , when the investigative judges (examining magistrate) in Naples were poised to question Berlusconi about a potential blackmailing in connection with his sex-affairs. Italian media speculate Berlusconi wants to avoid the subpoena with the visit in Strassburg.

"Such speculation" was refused by the prime. He was firstly trying to arrange a meeting for monday , but this wasnÄt possible , he told the Italian station Canale 5, which belongs to his media company mediaset. Tuesday was the only possible day.

According to statements of the speaker of eu-parliament president Jerzy Buzek Berlusconi arranged the meeting himself and Buzek was about to welcome him disregarding an already full date planer. The president will talk "joyful" with the prime about the current debt crisis, Buzek's speaker said. Instead the president himself was caught in a certain shame - he mentioned 'he got principally only two minutes for Berlusconi. '

Four other humans were injured according to data of the French atomic supervisory authority ASN. According to authorities and fire-brigade the danger exists that radioactivity escapes from the plant in close proximity to Avignon. The explosion occurred in an incinerator for weak radioactive waste, said the spokeswoman. The cause was not well-known at first. So far there is no emittance of radioactivity, communicated the Atomic Energy Commision after media reports.

A spokeswoman of the nuclear plant in Marcoule said before, one doesn't know whether radioactivity was emitted. The nuclear plant Marcoule , approximately 30 kilometers north of Avignon, consists of several smaller reactors, which are all shut down. The decay of a superpower

The decline of a superpower
The attacks from 11 September marked the beginning of the descent of the US. But not the terror tore the country into the abyss, but a government, which threw itself into two wars and forgot over it the problems at the home front. At the end of the "Decade from hell" the US went bankrupt politically, financially and morally.

911 changed everything. When the towers of the World Trade Center collapsed and buried nearly 3000 humans under it, the US already were in an economic and political crisis. The mud battle around the impeachment proceedings against president Bill Clinton two years before had divided the nation into two camps and the disputed presidential elections 2000 deepened this splitting between democrats and conservative even more: George W. Bush was allowed to move into white house though he had fewer votes than Al Gore - owing it to more electoral votes and after a violently disputed judgement of the supreme Court . And also economically it did not go too well after the bust of the Dotcom bubble , although president Clinton had left still another nearly balanced national budget. But when Islamist assassins with airplanes attacked, these problems all moved into the background.

Bush-Cheney FBI Covered-Up High-Level Al Queda Confederate in FL; Saudi Fled on 08/30/01

In a breaking story published in the Miami Herald, noted author Anthony Summers reveals for the first time information that the FBI withheld about important suspects from Congressional investigators and the 9/11 Commission, and evidence provided by Congress to the 9/11 panel about a high-level al-Qaeda supporter in Florida that was never publicly released. The FBI withheld information about an Al-Qaeda network in Florida from both sets of investigators, according to former U.S. Senator Bob Graham. Less than two weeks before the 9/11 hijackers slammed into the Pentagon and World Trade Center, members of a Saudi family abruptly vacated their luxury home near Sarasota, leaving a brand new car in the driveway, a refrigerator full of food, fruit on the counter — and an open safe in a master bedroom. In the weeks to follow, law enforcement agents not only discovered the home was visited by vehicles used by the hijackers, but phone calls were linked between the home and those who carried out the death flights — including leader Mohamed Atta — in discoveries never before revealed to the public. Ten years after the deadliest attack of terrorism on U.S. soil, new information has emerged that shows the FBI found troubling ties between the hijackers and residents in the upscale community in southwest Florida, but the investigation wasn’t reported to Congress or mentioned in the 9/11 Commission Report.

Dutch PM calls for Europe budget tsar

Dutch PM calls for Europe budget tsar

(FT) -- The European Union should appoint a new budget tsar with powers to dictate taxes and spending in eurozone countries and who could ultimately adjudicate whether countries should be kicked out of the euro, the Dutch prime minister has argued.

Writing in the Financial Times, Mark Rutte and his government's finance minister, Jan Kees de Jager, said the new "commissioner for budgetary discipline" should be given the authority to impose a gradually more painful series of penalties on profligate eurozone countries, including the withholding of EU development funds.

But if a country continues to flout EU demands for spending restraint, Mr Rutte's plan would force eurozone countries to submit their budgets to the commissioner, who could veto it before it is presented to parliament. Over the long term, Mr Rutte said, the eurozone should force countries to leave the euro if it did not abide by the commissioner's ruling.

Italians launch general strike against austerity

Italians strike against austerity

Tens of thousands of Italians have taken to the streets during a day-long strike against the government's latest austerity measures.

Flights, trains and buses were cancelled, and government offices shut.

The government has faced criticism over a 45bn-euro (£40bn) austerity package, and has been scrambling to revise it.

Some measures have been scrapped or watered down, but on Tuesday new additions were made - including a sales tax hike and revised wealth tax.

The sales tax is due to rise from 20% to 21% in the latest version of the austerity bill, while a 3% tax will be proposed for those earning more than 300,000 euros, the government said.

A constitutional requirement to balance the budget and changes to the retirement age will also be inserted.

Almost daily revisions of government plans, endless public discussion of every twist and turn, and increasing alarm among Italy's European neighbours, have put Italy right at the centre of the eurozone crisis, says the BBC's Mark Duff in Milan.

Millions of ordinary Italians are returning from their August summer holidays to an ever more uncertain future, he adds.

Obama Says Congress Must Pass Jobs Plan

DETROIT — President Barack Obama used a boisterous Labor Day rally to put congressional Republicans on the spot, challenging them to place the country's interests above all else and vote to create jobs and put the economy back on a path toward growth. "Show us what you've got," he said.

In a partial preview of the jobs speech he's delivering to Congress Thursday night, Obama said roads and bridges nationwide need rebuilding and more than 1 million unemployed construction workers are itching to "get dirty" making the repairs. He portrayed Congress as an obstacle to getting that work done.

I'm going to propose ways to put America back to work that both parties can agree to, because I still believe both parties can work together to solve our problems," Obama said at an annual Labor Day rally sponsored by the Detroit-area AFL-CIO. "Given the urgency of this moment, given the hardship that many people are facing, folks have got to get together. But we're not going to wait for them."

Chancellor Merkel’s party suffers losses in her own home state Merkel's support slid, her pro-business allies suffered a "debacle," but the left, far left, and Greens all made gains.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel's party suffered an electoral setback in her home state Sunday, two years before a national vote and amid mounting criticism over her handling of the eurozone crisis.

Key opposition parties took votes from her conservative Christian Democrats (CDU) in the poll, the latest in a string of poor election results in 2011, dubbed a "super election year."

According to exit polls released by TV channel ARD, the CDU won 23.3 percent in elections in the northeastern state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, an embarrassing decline on the 28.8 percent they won in 2006.

As expected, the centre-left Social Democratic Party (SPD) was the strongest party, with 36.6 percent of the vote, a significant gain on their 2006 performance of 30.2 percent.

The third-strongest party was the far-left Linke, with 18.0 percent.

The resurgent Greens scored 8.0 percent, according to the exit poll, ensuring their representation in the regional parliament for the first time. They had previously failed to clear the five-percent hurdle required to enter the parliament.

The far-right NPD, which has historically done well in the state that has an unemployment rate nearly twice as high as the national average, also lost support but looked likely to scrape back into parliament with 5.9 percent.

Final results in the state will not be available for another two weeks, following the death of the CDU candidate in one electoral district, forcing the postponement of the ballot.
