Framework Will Be Presented to Party Caucuses on Monday
By CARL HULSE and HELENE COOPER 57 minutes ago
Congressional leaders of both parties and President Obama said they had agreed to a framework for a deal to present to their caucuses Monday, moving closer to a measure that could pass both chambers.
WASHINGTON — President Obama and Congressional leaders of both parties said late Sunday that they had agreed to a framework for a budget deal that would cut trillions of dollars in federal spending over the next decade and clear the way for an increase in the government’s borrowing limit.
Syrian army kills 100 in Hama crackdown: activists
Syrian forces killed nearly 140 people on Sunday including 100 when the army stormed the flashpoint protest city of Hama to crush dissent on the eve of Ramadan, activists said.
Activists said it was one of deadliest days in Syria since demonstrators first took to the streets on March 15 demanding democratic reforms before turning their wrath on the regime and calling for its ouster.
As reports of the brutal crackdown on Hama unfurled, Britain, Germany, France, Italy and Turkey condemned the violence while a US diplomat said it was "full-on warfare".
"It is one of the deadliest days" since the protests erupted, said Rami Abdel Rahman, the head of the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
Turkey rules out crisis regarding the military
Erdogans last election results weren't as glorious as the ones before, not even 3/5 anymore instead of the triggered 2/3. Erdogans talk is cheap. It is not a crisis. Plop. Why exactly? Wanna call it x-mas?
ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — Turkey's president acknowledged Saturday that the resignation of the nation's top military commanders was unprecedented, but he said it would not cause a crisis.
The commanders suddenly quit Friday to protest the arrest of dozens of generals as suspects in an alleged plot to overthrow the country's Islamic-rooted government.
Many have questioned whether such a plot ever existed and see the arrests as part of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's long-standing campaign to establish civilian authority over Turkey's once powerful military. The government strongly denies that allegation.

Reagan aide: GOP either stupid, crazy or cowards
Historian Bruce Bartlett, a former domestic policy adviser to President Ronald Reagan, sat down with MSNBC’s Chris Matthews on Wednesday to discuss the national debt.
Bartlett said it was a myth that tax cuts are the key to prosperity, noting that Reagan raised the capital gains rate. He was also skeptical that Congress would be able to solve the current budget crisis.
“I think at this point, there’s nothing that can pass the House of Representatives,” he said.
“I think a good chunk of the Republican caucus is either stupid, crazy, ignorant or craven cowards, who are desperately afraid of the tea party people, and rightly so.”

Some jerk stamps Obama inane as for idleness
In a world where the right political spectrum currently shines through autistic serial killers in Norway, the charma of Mr. Obama is obviously in doubt. Well, I don't have any doubt he gets up in the morning and doesn't take 180 days holiday a year like Mr Bush. He isn't as unfit as Helmut Kohl or Mr Abdullah of Saudi Arabia who had amnesty international switched of the internet in Saudi Arabia today. It's a question of taste where you can call the others being unswift when the only thing you perform is your own audacity in terms of stubbornness. The connectivity of an asshxxx and the linking rate of a potwhale.
http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/exclusive/washington-struggles-over-debt-crisis-obama-stays-mum-043411132.html
I mean I don't want to insinuate that the Republicans tend to do virtually nothing. Boehner did something but it doesn't look like it's nuclear science. It's good for 6 months by lifting the debt limit for a trillion. I would call it only uninspired.
In this context, there is a pretty good thinkprogress article that stresses that Boehner's plan is in fact uninspired and doesn't solve the problem.
Ratings Agency Source: Boehner Plan Would Lead To Downgrade Of U.S. Debt, Reid Plan Would Preserve AAA Ratinghttp://thinkprogress.org/politics/2011/07/25/278929/ratings-agency-source-boehner-plan-would-lead-to-downgrade/
Besides, the baseless accusations against Obama he didn't suggest enough are simply an insult. Out of another tp article: As the Washington Monthly's Steve Benen noted today, Democrats have bent over backwards to craft a deal to raise the federal debt ceiling, only to be rebuffed at every turn by congressional Republicans who have been insisting that any deal include no new revenue and some cockamamie conservative policies (like a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution). To date, the GOP has turned away at least six different versions of Democratic plans to raise the debt ceiling.http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2011/07/25/278426/graphic-obamas-latest-debt-ceiling-offer-is-to-the-right-of-gang-of-six-and-simpson-bowles-gop-still-says-no/
And, concerning amnesty international and amok runs, doesn't look like Boehner wants to make this world less bullet ridden:
http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2011/07/25/278900/breaking-eric-cantor-admits-that-1-trillion-in-war-savings-counted-in-ryan-plan-cut-cap-balance-plan/
Today, Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) rejected Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's (D-NV) plan for raising the debt limit, claiming that it was full of gimmicks. Boehner's principle criticism was that Reid's plan counted $1 trillion in savings from winding down the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The hashtag #fuckyouwashington is currently making the rounds in just that fashion. Clinton urges India to expand influence
CHENNAI, India (AP) — U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on Wednesday challenged India to expand its traditional sphere of interest from South Asia to neighboring regions where it can help the United States blunt China's increasing assertiveness.
Clinton appealed for India to project its influence eastward, toward China's backyard in Southeast Asia and the Pacific Rim, as well as boost engagement in Central Asia, on China's western flank. She said the U.S. and India shared values that made them powerful partners in promoting security, democracy and development in areas into which China has made a push for dominance.
"Our interests align and our values converge," she said in a speech in India's southeastern port of Chennai, a fast-growing manufacturing hub chosen as the venue by U.S. officials who believe it is a natural jumping-off point for a greater Indian role in East Asia. With its democratic traditions, India can "inspire others to follow a similar path of openness and tolerance," Clinton said.

Plan to deal with the unthinkable
The Federal Reserve is actively preparing for the possibility that the United States could default as a deadline for raising the government's $14.3 trillion borrowing limit looms, a top Fed policymaker said on Wednesday.
Philadelphia Federal Reserve Bank President Charles Plosser said the Fed has for the past few months been working closely with Treasury, ironing out what to do if the world's biggest economy runs out of cash on August 2.
"We are in contingency planning mode," Plosser told Reuters in an interview at the regional central bank's headquarters in Philadelphia. "We are all engaged ... It's a very active process."
Plosser said his "gut feeling" was that President Barack Obama and Congress will come to an agreement to increase the Treasury's borrowing authority in time to avert a default on government obligations.

German deficit higher than expected
well, I lately saw a diagram, where the debt of a state was set in relation to the GDP. 2 circles had the same origin and 1 would then become bigger than the other. The circle would be solidly filled green if the GDP was somehow "bigger" than the debt. Spain looked pretty good, Germany looked still good, non-solid was Greece and really bad looked Italy.
Anyway, its somehow dangerous for Germany. Germany isnt so far away from the point where debt becomes bigger than GDP.
Now, Germany had to correct its debt prognosis due to Hypo real estate.

Germany: citizens registration

I just watched some RTL clip. They reported about robbers. In Germany, everyone can use the towns registry. You just need to have first name and surname and walk to the registry, then you get to know the address of the respective person. I mean it's totally ridiculous. They reported about facebook users who just published under their name and their city of residence in Germany. They wrote for example "I'm on holidays for 2 weeks." Then robbers went with name to the respective towns registr'y, got to know the location and robbed the respective flat.
Germany is really total junk when it comes to civil rights. The registry necessities date from Kaiser William, your chances to protest against this bullshit are virtually zero.

T-Mobile unionization effort goes global with complaint against parent company
T-Mobile unionization effort goes global with complaint against parent company
In a recent editorial supporting the NLRB's proposal to streamline union representation elections, the LA Times wrote that:
In fact, employers can and often do begin pressing the nonunion line on each worker's first day on the job.
This isn't hypothetical: Target is not alone in making new employees watch an anti-union video their first day on the job, and a recent study found that employer abuses begin before union representation petitions are filed. Union organizing drives last a finite time; employer anti-union campaigning often lasts the entire duration of a worker's employment.
T-Mobile is another such company. T-Mobile workers are trying to organize into a union (specifically the Communications Workers of America), and:
the company has hired union-busting attorneys and is conducting a classic anti-union campaign with mandatory captive audience meetings, delaying tactics and other intimidation measures, says UNI Global Union General Secretary Philip Jennings.
But T-Mobile is not Target or Walmart. It is owned by Deutsche Telekom, which itself is 30% owned by the German government and which has a unionized workforce in Germany. In fact, Deutsche Telekom:
boasts in its annual report on corporate responsibility that it is committed to the global labor standards established by the International Labor Organization (ILO), a branch of the United Nations.
So while T-Mobile is acting as a typical American company in trying to intimidate its workers away from joining a union and using delay tactics and frivolous complaints to buy time for further intimidation, unions are taking the fight international. This week the CWA, German union ver.di and UNI Global Union filed a complaint with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development:
The OECD guidelines, to which both Germany and the United States are signatories, have set a single standard that all governments must promote with employers, including the right of workers at multinationals to form or join trade unions of their choice.
Unions are also lining up political support in the U.S., including Rep. Tim Bishop and Sen. Richard Blumenthal. Additionally, if AT&T and T-Mobile merge, T-Mobile workers will benefit from a neutrality agreement in place between AT&T and CWA.

Germany:Kohl criticized loudly Merkel's European politics
Well, Obama and Merkel got one thing at common at current: they don't do too much. Merkel was just visiting Nigeria and Angola, Mr.Obama is obviously busy to welcome parts of China's tribal landscape, partly with new infrastructure, id est a railroad to Lhasa.
Whereas China is surely providing infrastructural measures, Merkel is exporting tanks and Marine ships to Saudi Arabia and Angola, respectively.
Now, the Dollar is slumping, the Euro as well. The Swiss Frank earned 30 % in net worth in comparison to both currencies in 18 months. Actually, these numbers are disastrous.
Neither Obama nor Merkel seem to care too much, they seem both be busy to protest infrastructural measures within China.
Now, the Juan experienced a similiar rally like the Swiss Frank. I guess it is not for their protests but for people who can work.
Fist up, comrades.
Whereas Merkel and Schaeuble are more or less busy to obstruct any potential rescue operation, Mr. Draghi and the other Italians are obviously busy to solve their 1.8 trillion Euro state debt problem by some inflation à la 1929. Both sides cannot compromise. In so far, Kohl's criticsm is a complete hit.
According to a long-time friend, who visited the ex-chancellor lately, Merkel's actions bear an enormous potential for danger , a preliminary report of the magazine out of Hamburg reads. "She destroys my Europe", a close confidant is cited by SPIEGEL.de of what Kohl said. Also, a range of other prominent conservative politicians warned Merkel regarding the euro-crisis to gamble the European friendly inheritance of the party. " Europe is a political project. It is too important to have it played with by rating agencies" said the Hessian Prime Minister and deputy CDU boss Volker Bouffier according to " Spiegel". Also, the head of the economical committee of the party misses a clear line in European politics. " The latter, that can be afforded by an export nation like ours, is to have an EU-sceptical population" said Kurt Lauk. The Federal Government "has 2 take the offensive." The euro-countries negotiate at present under high pressure about a new aid programme for Greece which is threatened by bankruptcy. In addition, a special summit of the euro countries takes place on coming Thursday. The participation of private creditors is highly disputed, which is being demanded by Germany's Federal Government,

White House welcomes Dalai Lama, China irked

WASHINGTON/BEIJING (Reuters) - China accused the United States on Saturday of "grossly" interfering in its internal affairs and damaging relations after President Barack Obama met exiled Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama at the White House.
Obama met the Nobel Prize laureate for some 45 minutes, praising him for embracing non-violence while reiterating that the United States did not support independence for Tibet.
China, which accuses the Dalai Lama of being a separatist who supports the use of violence to set up an independent Tibet, said Obama's meeting had had a "baneful" impact.
"Such an act has grossly interfered in China's internal affairs, hurt the feelings of Chinese people and damaged the Sino-American relations," Xinhua quoted Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu as saying in a written statement.

McConnell (R-Ky.) ...defended the idea not (2 cause state default)
AGAIN: McConnell DOES WANT a debt ceiling increase.
AND AGAIN: Of course there has to be a debt ceiling increase. Not because of the political damage. And not for some possible Caa1 reputation or sth. But the US refinancing is enormous at current. Bush made too many debts. If you need to refinance 8 billion with an interest rate of 16%, you go bankrupt like a dead duck. Once started, it might become an avalanche. Again, if it was 2000 and Gore was in office it might be not this dangerous. BTW: but: in 1995 it was real threat as well, because debt was huge back then as well. So, McConnells position is not PARTISAN so the word "crassly political" is utter bullshit. He is some nationalist as always.
McConnell Debt Ceiling Strategy: 'I Refuse To Help Obama Reelection'
WASHINGTON -- Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), under siege from conservatives over his opt-out proposal for the debt ceiling debate, defended the idea in crassly political terms during an interview on Wednesday morning.
The Kentucky Republican, appearing on Laura Ingraham's program, repeatedly pointed to the political toil that congressional Republicans endured during the mid-'90s when they squared off against then-President Bill Clinton over government spending.
"[W]e knew shutting down the government in 1995 was not going to work for us. It helped Bill Clinton get reelected. I refuse to help Barack Obama get reelected by marching Republicans into a position where we have co-ownership of a bad economy," McConnell said. "It didn't work in 1995. What will happen is the administration will send out notices to 80 million Social Security recipients and to military families and they will all start attacking members of Congress. That is not a useful place to take us. And the president will have the bully pulpit to blame Republicans for all this disruption."

Rupert Murdoch, News Corp Drop Bid For BSkyB
Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. has withdrawn its $12 billion bid for BSkyB. The withdrawal represents a devastating blow to Murdoch, who had desperately sought to take full control of the satellite broadcaster. It comes after the British government, which had previously given every indication that it wanted the deal to progress, dramatically withdrew its support for the bid on Tuesday in the wake of the ever-deepening scandal surrounding News Corp and its UK subsidiary, News International.
News Corp. issued this statement:
News Corporation ("News Corp") announces that it no longer intends to make an offer for the entire issued and to be issued share capital of British Sky Broadcasting Group PLC ("BSkyB") not already owned by it.Chase Carey, Deputy Chairman, President and Chief Operating Officer, News Corporation, commented: "We believed that the proposed acquisition of BSkyB by News Corporation would benefit both companies but it has become clear that it is too difficult to progress in this climate. News Corporation remains a committed long-term shareholder in BSkyB. We are proud of the success it has achieved and our contribution to it."

Gingrich claims ‘there is no Supreme Court’ in the U.S. Constitution
Charles-Louis de Secondat, baron de La Brède et de Montesquieu (English pronunciation: /ˈmɒntɨskjuː/, French pronunciation: [mɔ̃tɛskjø]; 18 January 1689 – 10 February 1755), generally referred to as simply Montesquieu, was a French social commentator and political thinker who lived during the Enlightenment. He is famous for his articulation of the theory of separation of powers, taken for granted in modern discussions of government and implemented in many constitutions throughout the world.

“There is no Supreme Court in the American Constitution,” Gingrich told an audience in Pella, Iowa. “There’s the court which is the Supreme of the judicial branch, but it’s not supreme over the legislative and executive branch. We now have this entire national elite that wants us to believe that any five lawyers are a Constitutional convention. That is profoundly un-American and profoundly wrong.”

Afghan president's powerful half brother assassinated
KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (AP) — President Hamid Karzai's half brother, the most powerful man in southern Afghanistan and a lightning rod for criticism of corruption in the government, was assassinated Tuesday by a close associate. His death leaves a dangerous power vacuum in the south just as the government has begun peace talks with insurgents ahead of a U.S. withdrawal.
Ahmed Wali Karzai, the head of the Kandahar provincial council, was shot to death while receiving guests at his home in Kandahar, the capital of the province that was the birthplace of the Taliban movement and was the site of a recent U.S.-led offensive.
Tooryalai Wesa, the provincial governor of Kandahar, identified the assassin as Sardar Mohammad and said he was a close, "trustworthy" person who had gone to Wali Karzai's house to get him to sign some papers.

Tabloid scandal: Queen, Brown reportedly targeted
LONDON (AP) — The scandal engulfing Rupert Murdoch's media empire exploded in several directions Monday, with fresh reports of phone hacking attacks against some of the nation's most powerful figures, including royals and former prime minister Gordon Brown.
Adding to the intrigue, Scotland Yard released an unusual statement accusing unidentified individuals of trying to sabotage its sprawling investigation. The police — themselves accused of accepting bribes from Murdoch's journalists — said somebody was deliberately planting distracting information in the press.
No one, it seems, had been safe from the prying eyes of corrupt journalists.
Multiple Murdoch papers spied on British PM, royals
Former prime minister Gordon Brown had his phone hacked and bank account breached by several British newspapers owned by Rupert Murdoch's media empire, reports said Monday.
Paperwork seized from News of the World phone hacker Glenn Mulcaire by Scotland Yard had references to both Brown and his wife Sarah, according to an investigation by The Guardian.
The investigation found an agent acting on behalf of Murdoch's Sunday Times posed as Brown to obtain his account records from Abbey National bank.
Another conman working for Sunday Times allegedly tricked Brown's London lawyers, Allen & Overy, into handing over details about their client.
Brown and his wife also suspect that a third Murdoch paper, The Sun, obtained their son's medical records. In 2006, the paper revealed that the boy had cystic fibrosis.
It is the first time that hacking allegations have extended beyond the News of the World tabloid, which Murdoch closed down Sunday amid widespread phone hacking allegations.
Could Murdoch deputy Hinton take the fall?
LONDON/NEW YORK (Reuters) - Les Hinton was adamant. Asked in 2007 by a British parliamentary committee whether the News of the World had "carried out a full, rigorous internal inquiry" into the use of illegal phone hacking by the newspaper and was "absolutely convinced" it was limited to a single reporter, Hinton did not hesitate.
"Yes, we have," the then-executive chairman of News of the World's owner News International told the select committee, "and I believe he was the only person, but that investigation, under the new editor, continues."
Four years on, Hinton may have serious reason to regret those words. In the middle of a voicemail hacking scandal that has killed the 168-year-old mass-circulation paper and threatens further damage to Rupert Murdoch's media empire, much of the public anger so far has focused on Rebekah Brooks, editor of News of the World between 2000 and 2003 when some of the most high-profile hacking occurred, and her successor Andy Coulson, under whom it continued.

Ex-Cameron aide arrested in UK hacking scandal
LONDON (AP) — Prime Minister David Cameron's former communications chief and an ex-royal reporter were arrested Friday in a phone hacking and police corruption scandal that has already toppled a major tabloid and rattled the cozy relationship between British politicians and the powerful Murdoch media empire.
The 168-year-old muckraking tabloid News of the World was shut down Thursday after being engulfed by allegations its journalists paid police for information and hacked into the phone messages of celebrities, young murder victims and even the grieving families of dead soldiers. Its last publication day is Sunday.
The hacking revelations horrified both ordinary Britons and advertisers, who pulled their ads en masse. News International, the British arm of Rupert Murdoch's News Corp., killed the paper in hopes of saving its 12 billion pound ($19 billion) deal to take over satellite broadcaster British Sky Broadcasting. But the British government on Friday signaled the deal would be delayed as a result of the crisis.

Scandal closing news of the world
London (CNN) -- The embattled British tabloid News of the World, one of the oldest and best-selling newspapers in Britain, will shut down after Sunday's issue, its owner, News International, told CNN Thursday.
The dramatic announcement follows accusations that the paper illegally eavesdropped on the phone messages of murder and terror victims, politicians and celebrities.
The scandal "sullied" the newspaper and "has no place in our company," News International Chairman James Murdoch said Thursday in announcing the shutdown.
And paying out-of-court settlements to some victims was "wrong and a matter of serious regret," Murdoch said. He is a son of media magnate Rupert Murdoch, the head of News Corp., which owns News International.
The paper's roughly 200 employees are now out of jobs, but are free to apply for other positions within News International, the company said.
The 168-year-old newspaper, which sells more than 2.5 million copies every Sunday, was brought down by an avalanche of public and political fury in the wake of revelations that the hacking victims included a missing 13-year-old girl who was later found to have been murdered.
