Berlusconi for tax evasion in front of court

dapd - vor 14 Min.

Four trials start out against Berlusconi in the coming week. Berlusconi wanted to stop three of them with a tailor-made immunity law. It was too tailor made to be credible (same law for all) and the immunity got killed by Italys highest court. The fourth process is about the encounters with minor Ruby.

A court marathon has just started out for the politically injured Italian prime Berlusconi. Berlusconi has to face reinstantation or simply new trials. It's about tax evasion, corruption, abuse of office, and sex with minors. Monday the first trial started out for tax evasion of his company mediaset. The peak will be the speed trial (that is a mode designed by Berlusconi fascist... of cuz sth where the accused has less rights and so on) for sex with a minor (Berlusconi's chances to survive it are practically zero) on the 6th of april.

DUBLIN (AP) - The opposition Fine Gael party appears poised to lead Ireland's next government as an exit poll released Saturday showed the party far ahead, while the long-dominant Fianna Fail party seemed headed for its worst result ever.

The poll was released an hour before counting of ballots began at centers around the country.

The Millward Brown Lansdowne exit poll for national broadcaster RTE showed Fine Gael with 36.1 percent of the first-preference votes in Friday's balloting, a figure which would fall short of giving the party a majority of seats in the Dail, the lower house of parliament.

Fianna Fail, which had won the most seats in every previous election, had 15.1 percent support. In elections going back to 1932, when the party led a government for the first time, it had never done worse than 39 percent.

The Labour Party, Fine Gael's likely coalition partner, had 20.5 percent, which would be its best performance ever.

"The political landscape of Ireland is completely and utterly redrawn," said Roger Jupp, chairman of Millward Brown Lansdowne.

Santorum Claims Left hates 'Christendom', Defends Crusades

Rick Santorum launched into a scathing attack on the left, charging during an appearance in South Carolina that the history of the Crusades has been corrupted by “the American left who hates Christendom.” “The idea that the Crusades and the fight of Christendom against Islam is somehow an aggression on our part is absolutely anti-historical,” Santorum said in Spartanburg on Tuesday. “And that is what the perception is by the American left who hates Christendom.”

Police chief concerned about Wisconsin's Walker

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/02/24/madison-police-chief-asks-walker-to-explain-troubling-comments/

Police chief Noble Wray of Madison, Wisconsin on Thursday asked Republican Gov. Scott Walker to explain "very unsettling and troubling" comments made in what he thought was a private phone call.

Pranked by a gonzo journalist pretending to be conservative billionaire David Koch, Walker said on the 20-minute call that his administration considered planting "troublemakers" in the crowd of demonstrators opposing his budget, which curtails the collective bargaining rights of public employees.

"I spent a good deal of time overnight thinking about Governor Walker's response, during his news conference yesterday, to the suggestion that his administration 'thought about' planting troublemakers among those who are peacefully protesting his bill," Wray said in a statement." I would like to hear more of an explanation from Governor Walker as to what exactly was being considered, and to what degree it was discussed by his cabinet members."

"I find it very unsettling and troubling that anyone would consider creating safety risks for our citizens and law enforcement officers. Our department works hard dialoging with those who are exercising their First Amendment right, those from both sides of the issue, to make sure we are doing everything we can to ensure they can demonstrate safely," he said.

Walker hinted in the call that he ultimately decided against planting "troublemakers" in the crowd. He joked to the Buffalo Beast's Ian Murphy, who he thought was Koch, that he may use a baseball bat in his office to go after the protesters.

Wray said he was "concerned" what Walker's remarks could signify, adding that it's his "responsibility" to "find out more about what was being considered by state leaders."

Wisconsin Democrats fled the state last week to prevent the Republican majority from getting the necessary votes for the bill.

On the call, Walker expressed no desire to back down in what has become a high-profile national issue, and seemed confident that enough Democrats would eventually come around to help push his measure through.

Irish vote after massive bail-out

Polls have opened in the Republic of Ireland, the first eurozone state to hold a general election following a financial bail-out.

The ballot was called more than a year early, a few months after the ruling coalition negotiated an 85bn-euro (£72bn) EU/IMF loan package.

Divisions had emerged in the ruling coalition between Fianna Fail and the Green Party.

A record number of independent candidates are standing for election.

Voting began at 0700 GMT and is due to finish at 2200 GMT. Polls opened on some of the country's islands on Wednesday.

There are 566 candidates fighting in 43 constituencies for 165 seats in the Irish parliament (Dail Eireann).

The burden of the bail-out will likely loom large in voters' minds as they enter the polling booths, with all the main parties promising to amend it.

'Backdoor WI' -- Providence Board Votes to Dismiss All of the City's 1,926 Unionized Public School Teachers in District

Many of the teachers were caught off guard by Mayor Angel Taveras’ decision to terminate teachers instead of laying them off. Last night, speakers questioned the mayor’s rationale: a $40-million school budget deficit and a self-imposed March 1 deadline by which the School Department must notify teachers if their jobs are in jeopardy. “This is a quasi-legal power grab,” said Richard Larkin, a teacher at Classical High School. “You want to pick and choose teachers. Well, we will not be bullied.” Speaker after speaker demanded to know why they were being fired. Teachers begged the School Board to issue layoffs rather than fire them outright because, under the layoff provisions, teachers are recalled based on seniority. There is no guarantee that seniority would be used to bring back any of the fired teachers. School leaders have been vague about exactly how seniority will play out in the case of terminations. “This is a back-door Wisconsin,” Providence Teachers Union President Steve Smith said, referring to the weeklong protests in Madison by labor unions and calling the terminations “an attack on labor and an attack on collective bargaining.” “We don’t know why we’re being fired. The mayor says he needs flexibility. Can you buy that? I don’t know of any other district that has done this.”

MADISON, Wis. – Republicans in the Wisconsin Assembly took the first significant action on their plan to strip collective bargaining rights from most public workers, abruptly passing the measure early Friday morning before sleep-deprived Democrats realized what was happening.

The vote ended three straight days of punishing debate in the Assembly. But the political standoff over the bill — and the monumental protests at the state Capitol against it — appear far from over.

The Assembly's vote sent the bill on to the Senate, but minority Democrats in that house have fled to Illinois to prevent a vote. No one knows when they will return from hiding. Republicans who control the chamber sent state troopers out looking for them at their homes on Thursday, but they turned up nothing.

"I applaud the Democrats in the Assembly for earnestly debating this bill and urge their counterparts in the state Senate to return to work and do the same," Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald, R-Horicon, said in a statement issued moments after the vote.

The plan from Republican Gov. Scott Walker contains a number of provisions he says are designed to fill the state's $137 million deficit and lay the groundwork for fixing a projected $3.6 billion shortfall in the upcoming 2011-13 budget.

The flashpoint is language that would require public workers to contribute more to their pensions and health insurance and strip them of their right to collectively bargain benefits and work conditions.

Democrats and unions see the measure as an attack on workers' rights and an attempt to cripple union support for Democrats. Union leaders say they would make pension and health care concessions if they can keep their bargaining rights, but Walker has refused to compromise.

Tens of thousands of people have jammed the Capitol since last week to protest, pounding on drums and chanting so loudly that police providing security have resorted to ear plugs. Hundreds have taken to sleeping in the building overnight, dragging in air mattresses and blankets.

Anti-Gaddafi forces surround Tripoli

Anti-Gaddafi forces surround Tripoli Soldiers strike back against demonstrators, but it's starting to look bleak for Libya's dictator.

ghaddafi's pretty slimy statement that the demonstrators are motivated by al-quaida was doomed to failure from the start. There was just some guy who reported again that Lockerbee was committed by Ghaddafi. In former years, Ghaddafi had used such an opportunity to stress his eagerness to be sharp (or sth), again. Today, he stressed his personal parallels to Elizabeth the 2nd, obviously because a British battleship was en route to Tripolis.
Ghaddafi is weak, and he evades every point in the way that could additionally weaken him more.

It smelled all the week like it when Daimler hastily announced that they wanted to sell their EADS share. You know, the shares are divided by nation and Germany took always a certain pride in having a share in eads. This phase seemed to be over without a certain reason - until now. The Pentagon gave the tanker order to Boeing what makes clear the the Europeans should have invested more of an effort to keep the order. The frustration at Daimler can't be hidden. Some people at airbus were obviously too lame to take care.
I remember some plane game where you could refuel in the air. The magic spell was "going to Texaco" and you would refuel at a KC-135. I mean ,come on, put some spirit in it. It's not this lousy to build tankers.

A general reportedly used psychological warfare on VIPs visiting Afghanistan. Why He Allegedly Did It

The U.S. Army ordered a "psychological operations" team to manipulate visiting U.S. senators into pushing for more funding and troops for the war in Afghanistan, according to a report in Rolling Stone magazine.

Three-star U.S. general Lt. Gen. William Caldwell is accused of deploying propaganda techniques, which the Army says are intended to "alter the behavior of foreign populations," against visiting U.S. dignitaries to Afghanistan in a potentially illegal, months-long operation to lobby Congress. Caldwell is responsible for the training of Afghan security forces.

Gen. David Petraeus, the commander of operations in Afghanistan, told reporters today he was calling for an investigation to "determine the facts and circumstances surrounding the issue."

Breaking: Senior Libyan airforce colonels defect to Malta

Two Mirage Libyan fighter jets asked for permission to land in Malta a few minutes ago, as seen on the al-Jazeera English network. Aboard? Two senior airforce colonels who had been ordered to fly to Benghazi and fire on Libyan demonstrators. The jets did get to Benghazi as ordered, but apparently both colonels had a change of heart when they saw their countrymen being fired on. Instead, they took off and headed for Malta where they were taken for questioning upon landing. This latest development in the ongoing battle between protesters who are demanding Qaddafi's resignation and Libyan armed forces could be an indicator that the regime has begun falling apart. I was already wondering about this Venezuela crap

Military aircraft attack Libya crowds: Al Jazeera

"Military aircraft attacked crowds of anti-government protesters in the Libyan capital Tripoli on Monday, Al Jazeera television said. A Libyan man, Soula al-Balaazi, who said he was an opposition activist, told the network by telephone that Libyan air force warplanes had bombed “some locations in Tripoli.” He said he was talking from a suburb of Tripoli. No independent verification of the report was immediately available. An analyst for London-based consultancy Control Risks said the use of military aircraft on his own people indicated the end was approaching for Muammar Gaddafi. “These really seem to be last, desperate acts. If you're bombing your own capital, it's really hard to see how you can survive,” said Julien Barnes-Dacey, Control Risks' Middle East analyst. “But I think Gaddafi is going to put up a fight. I think the rumours of him fleeing to Venezuela are going to prove wide of the mark. In Libya more than any other country in the region, there is the prospect of serious violence and outright conflict.” British Foreign Secretary William Hague said earlier that Gaddafi might be heading for Venezuela, but a senior government source in Caracas denied that."

MADISON, Wisconsin (Reuters) – The issues were serious but the mood was cheery on Sunday among demonstrators in Wisconsin protesting an effort by the Republican governor to reduce the bargaining power of public employee unions.

Protesters, marking the start of a second week of mass action, jammed inside the state Capitol's rotunda, protected from the sleet and wet snow outside, to munch pizza donated by sympathizers from out of state and from foreign countries.

"It's like a street festival," said Tyler Pagel, 29, whose wife is a teacher, one of tens of thousands of workers who could be affected by Gov. Scott Walker's proposal to roll back pay, benefits and bargaining rights of government employees.

Support Recall of Wisconsin Republican Governor

Support Recall of Wisconsin Republican Governor & Right Wing Union Buster Scott Walker!

Please note that this is not an “official” recall document, but more a chance to unify and vent on the possibility of recalling Scott Walker. By signing this petition, together we will send a strong message to the people of Wisconsin and America that the statements Scott Walker has made regarding stopping the Wisconsin Rail Project is essentially economic treason. Along with that decision, Walker wants to stop efforts for alternative energy, biotech, women's rights and other important issues that Wisconsin needs to be relevant and not some backwater outpost. Millions of dollars lost, thousands of jobs lost and the carelessness that will make Wisconsin lose out economically as Walker's first orders show only unprecedented incompetence. Scott Walker, now governor, needs to be recalled as quickly as possible or Wisconsin is in for more perilous times.

Wisconsin Gov. Walker Reiterates That The ‘National Guard’ Will Be Used Against A Worker ‘Walk-Off’

ThinkProgress has been following both Gov. Scott Walker’s (R-WI) recent “budget repair bill,” which would effectively eliminate state workers’ right to collectively bargain, and his coinciding threat to deploy the National Guard to stop a walkout. Yesterday, the Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers criticized Walker, saying that collective bargaining is “fundamental” to the middle class. Approximately 13,000 peaceful protesters flooded the state Capitol yesterday, including nearly 800 Madison East High School students who left school to protest Walker’s bill. Democratic lawmakers listened to testimonies from citizens for more than 20 hours, stretching into the early morning. Many people who hadn’t yet gotten to speak pulled out sleeping bags.

cnn
(CNN) -- Authorities trying to help a sick man and a child in a truck on a Florida highway also found a body in the vehicle Monday.

The incident started in the morning when a pest control truck pulled to the side of the road on I-95 in the West Palm Beach area.

Firefighters came to the scene and found a man and a boy suffering from some type of illness, said Chase Scott, a spokesman for West Palm Beach police.

Both were rushed to hospitals and were in serious condition, Scott said. Some of the firefighters on scene also became sick from fumes coming from the vehicle and had to be hospitalized.

Hazardous material teams were called in and while going through the truck authorities found a body inside a bag, Scott said.

The man and the boy had not been charged, but authorities had searched the man's home in southwest Dade County, Scott said.

Scott did not provide much information on the body that was found in the truck.

While Berlusconi has stood trial on a number of business-related charges, this is the first time the 74-year-old billionaire businessman is being tried for personal conduct. Berlusconi has denied wrongdoing.

Prosecutors allege Berlusconi paid for sex with the Moroccan girl, nicknamed "Ruby the Heart Stealer", then used his influence to get her out of police custody when she was detained for the unrelated suspected theft of €3,000 ($4,103).

On this pic, Berlusconi is obviously scratching off rests of his meal. I think he focusses in this pic thus on the idea that other people should have the opportunity to scratch off rests as well, id est he is fighting hunger and starvation on this planet. A warrior for equality as well.

Because he's slowly pulling equal with Saudi Arabia in maintainin the regime in Tehran, I think there are opportunities for true equality in other sectors too. Plant some bombs for example. World history is practically boring at current. Take these lousy revolutions fucked up by water cannons.

Saeb Erakat has submitted his resignation as the chief Palestinian negotiator, according to Mohammed Shtayeh, Palestinian negotiator and a Fatah Central Committee member.

Erakat had previously said that he would resign his post if an investigation into the leak of Palestinian negotiating documents aired by the Al-Jazeera television network proved that the source of papers came from his office.

The so-called Palestine Papers suggested that Palestinian negotiators offered to give up large swaths of East Jerusalem to Israel during talks dating back to 2008 and that they had been willing to offer much larger concessions in private than they were publicly acknowledging.

Washington (CNN) -- Republican Rep. Christopher Lee of New York resigned his House seat Wednesday after a report that the married congressman had tried to meet a woman on Craigslist.

"It has been a tremendous honor to serve the people of Western New York," Lee said in a statement posted on his website. "I regret the harm that my actions have caused my family, my staff and my constituents. I deeply and sincerely apologize to them all. I have made profound mistakes and I promise to work as hard as I can to seek their forgiveness."

The statement said that "the challenges we face in Western New York and across the country are too serious for me to allow this distraction to continue, and so I am announcing that I have resigned my seat in Congress effective immediately."

Just before 6 p.m., an announcement read on the House floor said Lee had resigned as of 5 p.m. Wednesday, and the number of the House members decreased by one from 435 to 434.

Lee, who is married and has a son, resigned after the website Gawker published an item reporting that he corresponded with a woman who posted a Craigslist ad and allegedly sent her a bare-chested photo of himself.

State attorney indicts Berlusconi

Die Bunga-Bunga-Affären haben Folgen: Italiens Regierungs-Chef Berlusconi wird angeklagt. Die Justiz hat ein Schnell-Verfahren beantragt. mehr ...

LONDON -- Silvio Berlusconi's ongoing legal troubles just got a whole lot worse. On Wednesday, Italian prosecutors requested that the prime minister be put on trial immediately for sex-related offenses that carry a maximum prison sentence of 15 years.

A judge now has five days to decide whether there is sufficient evidence to indict Berlusconi. If she decides that there is, she may consent to a fast-track trial. Otherwise, the process will slow down and involve the Italian parliament.

Berlusconi called the prosecutors' action "disgusting" and characterized it as an attempt to oust his government.

"Knallfrosch" Netanjahu goes into the next round

Knallfrosh is German and it means literally as much as crack frogger. It's a firecracker that explodes in steps, and after each little explosion, it jumps a foot and then cracks again and jumps and cracks and jumps and cracks. Now Netanjahu seems to have senior abilities concerning this technique. Throughout the uprise in Egypt, he's foddering the world media with little helpful remarks about the disorganization of Egypt. His latest stunt is that he is reasoning an increased military budget with even this instability

PATRIOT Act extension fails
Shock: Post-9/11 security bill stopped by procedural vote

BUZZFLASH

The patriot act, obviously still a fantastic piece of legislature, despite robbing the average US citizen of his rights, failed -tooootally astooonishing to me.

A plan that would have seen the House of Representatives extend controversial provisions of the PATRIOTAct with little debate failed Tuesday night, as a group of Republicans joined a majority of Democrats in voting no.

The House voted 277 to 148 for the PATRIOT Act extension -- 23 votes short of the two-thirds majority needed to pass it under a procedure that allows bills that aren't controversial to pass quickly.

But it appears the bill was controversial enough to convince some two dozen tea party-backed Republican freshmen to join a majority of Democrats in voting against it, The Hill reported.

Now that we get daily foddered with stupid articles about sex nudity corruption of Silvio Berlusconi, I did not long for an Italian as ECB head, Furthermore the German team faces the Italian soccer team in Dortmund tonight. It's pretty sad if Weber pulls back right now. I mean, what I saw from the Drengi empire in Galactic Civilizations, I was even less enthusiastic than knowing about Berlusconi alone.

Egypt VP: Calls for ouster 'disrespectful'

Surely it is totally unethical to call for the ouster of someone who is 82 and governing for 30 years with martial law, whose children got each 15 bio$ in foreign accounts, and whose vice thinks of ethics as a (n American) football game.

Obama is doing fine, whereas Netanyahu and the rest of his crapshit Likud-khamena bunch is obviously counting grains of sand. I hope Israel's Labour party will gather some momentum again, because these organizations are totally unuseable.

Israel is a total flop concerning Egypt revolution

These people are not spreading boredom, this is anti - illusional. They nag it dwon to some unworthy Egyptian citizens who are obviously unwilling to accept their position in our very operational world. Disregarding not so operational phone lines, 297 corpses, martial law for 30 years and other hillarious achievements of the Mubarak regime. Israel's 'secret hotline' to Egypt VP
Rumsfeld: Bush 'disappointed' me

The amazing thing about Rumsfeld is always that he can make bullshit look intelligent. I don't know why exactly, but impressive.

"He decided he wanted to leave people with the impression that he didn't want to go to the CIA [in the Ford administration]. And that someone made him go there. And it was probably Rumsfeld or something."

Yeah, we will recall you the freedom. AS .Thanx for 911 anyway

?not clear? Well, the GOP toughened its stance pretty much before Carter, for example through interdependence.Well, Carter caught Ford pretty much cold, but then again , he got dismantled pretty fast by people like Rumsfeld or Ted Kennedy. The Repugs gained 12 years in govt for a democratic party, that was especially in 88 unable to put up some worthy alternative. Then came CLinton, and most clocks ticked diffrently again. I stiull think it was partly this credo that the GOPers are tougher or sth that made Bush vulnerable towards 911, especially thanx to such idioms like Rumsfeld.

Bush gave a skix about the memo "Bin Laden determined to strike in the US" and it was mainly for such "activists" like Rumsfeld.

Germany: A Turk to be voted about

Whow. Sometimes you can just be astonished when it comes close to election dates. Westerwelle was very active when it comes to Turkey, he got there at least 2x since becoming foreign minister in sep2009.
Obviously, not all conservative German politicians are as liberul as mister Westerwelle. Mr. Mappus declared that the voting in Baden-Wuerttemberg,
one of Germany's 'states' , will be about Mr. Oezdemir, head of Germany's ecos. Now, Mr Oezdemir is no candidate in this election, so the thought is a bit faint or distant.
