Another major crack at the ECB: rift over bond acquisition makes Stark leave

Beat of a kettledrum at the end of the week: Jürgen Stark wants to give up allegedly his posts as ECB executive economist. Reason for his exit is discord over the ECB bond purchases of (issuing member-states)what is particularly disputed in Germany.


The executive economist of the European central bank (ECB), Jürgen Stark, will shortly resign. Financial circles in Frankfurt and Berlin said, Stark wants to announce his resignation after stock exchange closure for the weekend. The ECB did not want to commentate this.


Reason for his exit is discord over the ECB bond purchases of (issuing member-states) what is particularly disputed in Germany.

Nothing was said about a possible successor. As a candidate financial Secretary of State Jörg Asmussen is considered. In any case the post is to be occupied again with a German. The negotiations are still underway.
