The election phase for 2012 starts out next year in France. Sarkozy hopes for a year without scandals and a weak enemy. If it should be DSK though -how the IMF head is called in his home country - it will be difficult.

It's clear of what Sarkozy will think during shaving in the upcoming weeks: of 2012. Then tere will be elections in France. There is no doubt that Sarkozy thrives for a second term. He did not declare it though. Even wife Carla Bruni seems to be supportive of it. She's busy recording her next record.

The past year was not easy for Sarkozy: Even though he pushed through a long overdue reform of the retirement system, he paid a high price for it. There were protests for weeks, millions were on the streets, his reputation suffered dramatically. The grafitti on a statue on place de la republique became an icon for it: "Sarkozy, leave!"
