LEMONDE:What do u think of the alliance parti socialiste - europe eco? Do u think it'll work long after after this municipal vote?
FABIUS: Yes. They made rules among great conditions. They respected the general voting. The diffrence of the diffrent parties is bein respected and at the same time they stormed to the first spot. The compromise they found is useful. Thus they got the dynamics. Nonetheless they need to chase perfection after the election too. There are common values and the necessity for unity.

How do u analyze the results of the first round? How do u explain the right stalled?

FABIUS:FIRST UP, a general remark: Sarkozy couldnt carry the msg of the first tour and he needs to PRIME during the second round.

Revenons sur le premier tour. Un mot d'abord sur l'abstention. Lets get back to the first round: A remark about the high abstention. Noone knows our municipal institutions. thus one has to seperate the municipal vote and the sector vote. If not thats a defiance of the efficency of politics multiplied by presidential promises and the results of presidential action. Obviously, most incidents influencing the outcome were badly placed(, id est I guess returning bruni by jet from Thailand) thus this high abstention.

Bien sûr, pour contrer l'abstention, il faut s'attaquer à tous ces éléments. Pour ma part, au-delà de l'immédiat, je suis partisan – et j'ai déposé une proposition de loi en ce sens il y a déjà quelques années – du vote obligatoire avec reconnaissance du vote blanc. Cela ne répond pas à tous les problèmes de fond, j'en suis conscient, mais cela permettrait à ceux qui s'intéressent légitimement à la politique, mais qui ne sont pas satisfaits de l'offre politique, de le faire savoir.

Maintenant, parmi les votants qui sont tout de même, je le rappelle, près de vingt millions, plusieurs tendances se dégagent. Le très faible score historiquement de la droite. Pourquoi ? A la fois parce que les bilans et les projets régionaux de la gauche sont apparus meilleurs, et parce que l'électorat a voulu sanctionner la politique gouvernementale.
