Iranian Election: Clockwork Orange

Can A Nervous Regime Strike Fear Once More Into The Population It Fears Most?

By Steve Schippert
Much like Stanley Kubrick's 1971 movie Clockwork Orange, Iranian elections are irresistibly difficult to watch. And this election has all the hallmarks of being more than just another sequel, but rather that rare occurrence where it is even more compelling (and irresistibly difficult) than any of its serial predecessors. One of the smartest - and most principled - Iran experts, my friend Michael Ledeen, explains ably just why this is. Their [open demonstrators by the thousands] candidate is the former...

California's Fiscal Crisis: The Legacy of Proposition 13

yahoo.com

The financial crisis in California grew worse this week as State Controller John Chiang warned that if legislators and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger fail to come up with a budget-balancing package, he would begin paying California's bills with IOUs on July 2. The last time the state did this was during the Great Depression.

What has brought California to such a perilous state? How did its government become so wildly dysfunctional? One obvious cause is the deep recession that has caused tax revenues to plunge for all states. But California's woes have a set of deeper reasons: direct democracy run amok, timid governors, partisan gridlock and a flawed constitution all contribute to budget chaos and people in pain. And at the root of California's misery lies Proposition 13, the antitax measure that ignited the Reagan Revolution and the conservative era. In Washington, the Reagan-Bush era is over. But in California, the conservative legacy lives on. (Read TIME's report: Can the U.S. Afford to Let California Fail?)

Before Prop 13, in the 1950s and '60s, California was a liberal showcase. Governors Earl Warren and Pat Brown responded to the population growth of the postwar boom with a massive program of public infrastructure - the nation's finest public college system, the freeway system and the state aqueduct that carries water from the well-watered north to the parched south. When Ronald Reagan was governor he actually raised taxes. Then Proposition 13 shot the tires out of Pat Brown's liberal state. Liberal legislative leaders such as Willie Brown and John Burton jerry-rigged repairs and kept the damaged vehicle running for 30 years. Now Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger says there is no choice but to complete the demolition by slashing essential services. (TIME's Joel Stein weighs in on California's state of insanity)

Proposition 13 was the brainchild of the late Howard Jarvis. The antitax crusader was a policy genius not unlike Franklin D. Roosevelt. Both shared an affinity for designing deep structural change that, once embedded in the political system, is nearly impossible to alter without a massive change of heart by voters. Social Security is the lasting legacy of the New Deal era because F.D.R. understood that workers who contribute payroll-tax deductions from their paychecks would not want politicians tinkering with their retirement dollars. Conservatives have mounted assaults on Social Security through the years but to no avail.

Jarvis created a similarly impregnable institution. When he rode the wave of anger over skyrocketing property-tax assessments to pass Proposition 13 in 1978, he included a two-thirds vote requirement for the passage of any new taxes in California - an insurmountable obstacle built on populist allergy to any kind of new levy. Beholden to a tax-averse electorate, the state's liberals and moderates have attempted to live with Proposition 13 while continuing to provide the state services Californians expect - freeways, higher education, locking up felons, assisting needy families and, very importantly, essential funding to local government and school districts that vanished after the antitax measure passed.

Now, however, that balancing act no longer seems possible. In the state's current fiscal crisis, California's public schools stand to lose $5.3 billion on top of $7.4 billion in cuts last year. Superintendents and school boards foresee teacher layoffs, increased class sizes, the loss of computer labs and libraries and, in some districts, insolvency. Superintendent Ramon Cortines says the Los Angeles Unified School District will lay off more than 2,500 teachers.

"If not for the county [welfare program], lots of people would be out on the streets and I'd be one of them with my two kids," says Cinnamon McDaniel. Petite and well dressed, McDaniel is hardly the Reagan-stereotype welfare mom of yore. The 26-year-old African American mother of two was employed until a year ago when her doctor ordered her to stop working because of complications with her second pregnancy. A high school graduate and a preschool teacher's aide for six years, she is working toward a nursing degree. Following a divorce, she now receives a welfare check for $623 as well as food stamps and the state's health coverage for low-income families. "Last year I was able to work and pay my own bills. I'd like to see if Gov. Schwarzenegger could cut it on $600 a month."

South of Los Angeles at California State University, Fullerton, Nicole Muth, 22, has just finished her junior year with straight A's. Muth grew up in Modesto with "lots of love but no money." Raised by her aunt and uncle, she receives a Cal Grant of $4,500 a year. "It definitely helps," says Muth, who credits the grant with allowing her to focus on her studies. As part of his proposed budget cuts, however, Schwarzenegger says Cal Grants should be phased out and that money promised to the incoming college class eliminated. "I appreciate the grant very much and I'm concerned about students coming after me not having the opportunities I've had," says Muth. "I'm really sad to see our state in this economic crisis. It's bewildering." Muth is not alone.

The governor has addressed the need for shrinking the state, saying, "We have to go and make certain cuts in health care. We have to make certain cuts in education, in higher education, in all these various different programs, in prisons, law enforcement and so on." But Anthony Wright, executive director of Health Access California, a nonprofit advocacy group, says, "These are no longer cuts. These are amputations, and the question is, Which limb are we cutting off today?"

Iran pledges 'crushing' response to US critiques

I mean held a totally baseless speech in Cairo. Id call it kirre but it doesnt matter. Akmaydjinedjads baseless accusation now that the mask has been removed (or whatsoever) is something that estranges me even more. What mask? Michael Jackson? Anyway, whoever may be concerned by this totally unprecise remark, its still a lousy reflection of eventrs. Not only that Iran rolled over its own population, they also slapped Obamas far stretched hand away. Akmaydjinedjad wasnt very eager to shake it. Iran should be more silent. This comes very close to a point where the US should react in a diffrent form.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Iranian authorities have barred journalists for international news organizations from reporting on the streets and ordered them to stay in their offices. This report is based on the accounts of witnesses reached in Iran and official statements carried on Iranian media.

___

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad vowed Saturday to make the U.S. regret its criticism of Iran's postelection crackdown and said the "mask has been removed" from the Obama administration's efforts to improve relations.

Ahmadinejad — with his internal opponents virtually silenced — all but dared Obama to keep calling for an end to repression of demonstrators who claim the hardline leader stole re-election through massive fraud.

"You should know that if you continue the response of the Iranian nation will be strong," Ahmadinejad said in a speech to members of Iran's judiciary, which is directly controlled by the ruling clerics. "The response of the Iranian nation will be crushing. The response will cause remorse."

South Korea warns of first strike

Rawstory

Ooups. Dramatic turn of events. So the North Korean "acts of self defense" weren't totally baseless

In a reversal of the usual pattern, South Korea is now warning North Korea that it is developing a first-strike capacity against the communist country.

In the wake of a recent nuclear bomb test by North Korea, South Korea is ratcheting up its war of words against its northern neighbor, announcing plans to accelerate the deployment of defense systems.

A South Korean defense reform plan, reported on by the Korea Times, describes the country’s plans for a defense network that would link surveillance satellites, high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft and early-warning radar in an effort “to remove North Korea’s asymmetrical military threat of nuclear and missile programs.”

GOP is running naked in the woods

A former mayor found sitting naked and holding a beer at a Rabun County campsite told police he wasn’t the same naked man seen walking around earlier.

Mark Musselwhite, 43, said he was hot and had been in the creek, according to a Georgia Department of Natural Resources incident report. He apparently didn’t think he was doing anything wrong.

Mark Musselwhite was elected to the Gainesville City Council in 2000, serving for six years, including as mayor of the town.

Mark Musselwhite, 43,

was arrested last weekend after being confronted by state DNR authorities. He was charged with public indecency.

“He told me he was the ex-mayor of the city Gainesville and he was a very political person,” DNR Ranger Brandon Walls wrote in the report.

Walls and a deputy sheriff went to the campsite Saturday evening after a complaint of a man walking naked in Earls Ford Road, according to the report. Musselwhite appeared to be intoxicated, and several alcoholic beverages were at the campsite, Walls said.

Walls said he had spoken to Musselwhite earlier in the day regarding an ATV the former mayor was driving.

“He looked at us and said hello,” according to the report.

Musselwhite then asked why he was being visited.

I think Mengele was suspected to be in Argentine. I mean its not clear to me why the injected Opium into Jackson in large amounts. I read it was Demerol. Its fully synthetic and may have complications because its in fact not very organic. jackson was seen before at Staples center. He didnt have spots or any other signs that may imply that he had organic failures. So in fact the only thing u needed to do was to dope him. There was no organ failure to be expected. If he had some pill cocktail before, its very important that the organs continue to process, otherwise u may have some poisenoius mix minside your body that stays unprocessed. What is a total mystery to me is that they saw the heart rate falling and they didnt react at UCLA. U have to make immediate use of dopamine if such a case occurs (or inject coffeine, or taurin or cocaine).

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (CNN) -- Argentina's President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner has held power since 2003, and Sunday's midterm elections will prove pivotal to her hold on power.

Much depends on how Fernandez's husband -- and predecessor -- Nestor Kirchner fares in his race for a deputy's seat in the nation's lower house.

Even though he has not been in office since December 2007, some analysts say he remains the most influential political figure in the nation and the person who still makes most important policy decisions for his wife's government.

At stake Sunday are half of the seats in Argentina's lower house of Congress (127 of 257 seats) and one-third of the Senate posts (24 of 72).

Recent polls have indicated an extremely tight race, with the Kirchner Peronist Party expected to lose a large portion of the national vote and the majority it now holds in the lower house. It could even lose control of the Senate.

"The overall outlook appears bleak from the government's perspective," said Daniel Kerner, an analyst with the Eurasia Group consulting firm.

FBI news on 911

Peter Dale Scott writes about how the FBI protected Ali Mohamed:

In our book, '9/11 and Empire: Intellectuals Speak Out,' I wrote of Ali Mohamed, the close ally of Osama bin Laden and his mentor Ayman al-Zawahiri. It is now generally admitted that Ali Mohamed (known in the al Qaeda camps as Abu Mohamed al Amriki — "Father Mohamed the American") worked for the FBI, the CIA, and U.S. Special Forces. As he later confessed in court, he also aided the terrorist Ayman al-Zawahiri, a co-founder of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad, and by then an aide to bin Laden, when he visited America to raise money.

The 9/11 Report mentioned him, and said that the plotters against the U.S. Embassy in Kenya were “led” (their word) by Ali Mohamed. That’s the Report’s only reference to him, though it’s not all they heard.

Patrick Fitzgerald, U.S. Attorney who negotiated a plea bargain and confession from Ali Mohamed, said this in testimony to the Commission

Ali Mohamed. …. trained most of al Qaeda’s top leadership – including Bin Laden and Zawahiri – and most of al Qaeda’s top trainers. He gave some training to persons who would later carry out the 1993 World Trade Center bombing…. From 1994 until his arrest in 1998, he lived as an American citizen in California, applying for jobs as an FBI translator.

Patrick Fitzgerald knew Ali Mohamed well. In 1994 he had named him as an unindicted co-conspirator in the New York landmarks case, yet allowed him to remain free. This was because, as Fitzgerald knew, Ali Mohamed was an FBI informant, from at least 1993 and maybe 1989. Thus, from 1994 “until his arrest in 1998 [by which time the 9/11 plot was well under way], Mohamed shuttled between California, Afghanistan, Kenya, Somalia and at least a dozen other countries.” Shortly after 9/11, Larry C. Johnson, a former State Department and CIA official, faulted the FBI publicly for using Mohamed as an informant, when it should have recognized that the man was a high-ranking terrorist plotting against the United States.

As I say in our book, in 1993 Ali Mohamed had been detained by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Canada, when he inquired at an airport after an incoming al Qaeda terrorist who turned out to be carrying two forged Saudi passports. Mohamed immediately told the RCMP to make a phone call to the United States, and the call secured his release. We’ve since been told that it was Mohamed’s West coast FBI handler, John Zent, “who vouched for Ali and got him released.”

This release enabled Ali to go on to Kenya, take pictures of the U.S. Embassy, and deliver them to bin Laden for the Embassy bombing plot.

ThreatWatch: RapidReckon: Massacre in Teheran?

Unimaginable Horror In Tehran Today

Iran has executed its Tiananmen Square. Baharestan Square has become synonymous with barbarity, cruelty, massacre and inhumanity.

An Iranian blogger (whose URL I will not publish) live blogging from Baharestan Square in central Tehran today captures but brief glimpses of the unimaginable horror that took place today. Bus loads of protesters were stopped and unloaded from their buses by "black-clad police" and literally herded. When the massing was sufficient, as the barely controllably distraught Tehran caller to CNN described first hand, hundreds of the regime's Basij thugs poured out of an adjoining mosque and commenced a massacre with axes, clubs, guns and gas.

From the live blogger's eyewitness account:

>More than 10.000 Bassij Milittias get position in Central Tehran, including Baharestan Sq.
>Army Helycopters flying over Baharestan and Vali Asr Sq.
>The streets, squares and around BAHARESTAN (Approx. South-eastern of Tehran) is swarming with military forces, civilian forces, the security motorists
>The croud have moved to the south of baharestan, the situation is bad, the shooting has started
>In Baharestan Sq. in the Police shooting, A girl is shot and the police is not allowing to let them help
>In Baharestan we saw militia with axe choping people like meat - blood everywhere - like butcher

This is the Iranian regime, wading into its own unarmed people and axing them to death, bludgeoning women (seen as the greatest threat to the regime) and throwing them to their deaths from pedestrian bridges. The same Iranian regime whose embassy officials are invited to American embassies around the world to celebrate on July 4th, of all things, a successful revolution.

This frantic phone call from a Tehran woman will break your heart as you consider our standard response has been "that there are sets of international norms and principles about violence" and that "the international community is watching." Part of yesterday's response by President Obama in a press conference included "that there is a peaceful path that will lead to stability and legitimacy (of the Iranian regime) and prosperity for the Iranian people. We hope they take it." The Iranian theocratic regime clearly is not interested.

Akmaydjinedjad: Obama should excuse

Its such a sorry crossover: US revolution and this Iranian election. Really sad Obama had to utter slight criticism after he held this successful Cairo speech. I think anyway Obama should reconsider. If he doesnt utter any criticism anymore, the impression cannot occur the US of today has anything in common with the US of 1776.
(sorry just joking)
Shocking disaster Akmaydjinedjad has to present. Obama played a great gesture with his Cairo speech. The only thing we get in return is a regime that is defending in the most embarassing terms its grip onto power. If the GOP needed any proof that a dialogue with Iran is superflous, they got it now. The left got beaten again. After they toppled Carter 1980 with their lunatic occupation of the US embassy in Iran, they foul Obama with open arms. The hallucinating parts of the left who maintain a dialogue with orthodox Muslim forces is necessary after the Basji militia came obviously out of a mosque to axe the the demonstrators should rethink its approach towards human rights.

The Sanford E-mails

Wed Jun 24, 2009 at 03:34:23 PM PDT

Last December, The State managed to get its hands on some of the e-mails between Mark Sanford and his lover, an Argentinian woman named Maria.

For some mind-boggling reason, The State has sat on those e-mails for the past six months, but now they say they will release them tomorrow. Today, they released a sample e-mail, sent on July 10, 2008 at 12:24 a.m., and oh what an e-mail it is. It's got everything.

It's got politics:

The following weekend have been asked to spend it out in Aspen, Colorado with McCain - which has kicked up the whole VP talk all over again in the press back home ...

It's got sweet nothings:

You have a particular grace and calm that I adore. You have a level of sophistication that so fitting with your beauty.

It's got a torn heart:

In the meantime please sleep soundly knowing that despite the best efforts of my head my heart cries out for you, your voice, your body, the touch of your lips, the touch of your finger tips and an even deeper connection to your soul.

And of course it's got steamy passion:

I could digress and say that you have the ability to give magnificent gentle kisses, or that I love your tan lines or that I love the curve of your hips, the erotic beauty of you holding yourself (or two magnificent parts of yourself) in the faded glow of the night’s light - but hey, that would be going into sexual details ..

The Club Part II

The Club Part II

by digby

Following up on my post last week about the shall we say, friendliness between the business and national security elites, here's a story from 2006 for the wtf files:

President George W. Bush has bestowed on his intelligence czar, John Negroponte, broad authority, in the name of national security, to excuse publicly traded companies from their usual accounting and securities-disclosure obligations. Notice of the development came in a brief entry in the Federal Register, dated May 5, 2006, that was opaque to the untrained eye.

Unbeknownst to almost all of Washington and the financial world, Bush and every other President since Jimmy Carter have had the authority to exempt companies working on certain top-secret defense projects from portions of the 1934 Securities Exchange Act. Administration officials told BusinessWeek that they believe this is the first time a President has ever delegated the authority to someone outside the Oval Office. It couldn't be immediately determined whether any company has received a waiver under this provision.

The timing of Bush's move is intriguing. On the same day the President signed the memo, Porter Goss resigned as director of the Central Intelligence Agency amid criticism of ineffectiveness and poor morale at the agency. Only six days later, on May 11, USA Today reported that the National Security Agency had obtained millions of calling records of ordinary citizens provided by three major U.S. phone companies. Negroponte oversees both the CIA and NSA in his role as the administration's top intelligence official.

Saudi Royal Family Extensively Involved in Financing Al-Qaeda,

Saudi Royal Family Extensively Involved in Financing Al-Qaeda, Newly Revealed Government Documents Apparently Confirm

Since shortly after 9/11, BuzzFlash.com and other progressive sites -- as well as many a book -- offered extensive information that appeared to closely link some members of the Saudi Royal family to financing and supporting Al-Qaeda. This was something that the Bush Administration went to great lengths to deny, but their deference to the Saudis (including George W. walking pinky-entwined-with-pinky with Saudi princes, for real) was really all as usual about oil.

Dick Cheney and Rumsfeld -- in particular -- saw 9/11 as an enormous "gift" to rally the public behind first securing American and British access to the Iraqi oil fields and then to the Iranian ones. In the infamous PNAC document written by the Neo-Cons at the end of the Clinton Administration, they predicted that it would take a cataclysmic event to rally the American public behind the overthrow of Saddam (and rights to Iraqi oil) -- and they got what they wished for in 9/11.

Those who read BuzzFlash in our early years know that we repeatedly harped upon this issue and identified the connection between Cheney's vision of controlling natural resources in the Middle East to feed the beast of American empire and our Afghanistan/Iraq/Iran policies of belligerence and war.

Now the Obama administration has, sadly, taken the place of the Bush Administration in keeping 9/11 family members from revealing the role of the Saudi elite in financially and stratetically facilitating Al-Qaeda. This is taking place in courtroom battles involving a 9/11 family lawsuit against the Saudis that is still going on.

A June 24th New York Times article spills the beans, yet again, but via official government documents leaked to the attorneys for the 9/11 families:

Documents gathered by lawyers for the families of Sept. 11 victims provide new evidence of extensive financial support for Al Qaeda and other extremist groups by members of the Saudi royal family, but the material may never find its way into court because of legal and diplomatic obstacles.

The case has put the Obama administration in the middle of a political and legal dispute, with the Justice Department siding with the Saudis in court last month in seeking to kill further legal action. Adding to the intrigue, classified American intelligence documents related to Saudi finances were leaked anonymously to lawyers for the families. The Justice Department had the lawyers’ copies destroyed and now wants to prevent a judge from even looking at the material.

attempt to transform Italy into a two party system is a total failure

June 23 (Bloomberg) -- Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s coalition made gains in local elections, a sign that recent personal scandals haven’t damaged his popularity.

Berlusconi’s center-right forces won the elections in 34 provinces while the center-left opposition led by the Democratic Party triumphed in 28 provinces, according to results posted on the Interior Ministry’s Web site. Berlusconi and his allies picked up 25 provinces in the two rounds of voting that finished yesterday compared with the previous vote in 2004.

Berlusconi succeeded in regaining control of the province of Milan, his hometown and Italy’s second-biggest city and financial hub. He already controls Milan’s region of Lombardy, and his former education minister, Letizia Moratti, is the city’s mayor. In municipal elections, the center-right won in 16 cities while the center-left won in 14, losing control of nine cities while succeeding to hold on to Bologna.

One night in Silvio Berlusconi’s 'harem'

Former escort girl tells of dinner party at Italian premier's home, where he showed off to female guests then took her to bed

cookz
You have been pushing this Berlusconi thing for awhile now. Does it have a particular close to the heart thing with you?
Just wondering...

no its just interesting - the pile of details that come out and out. its not very interesting in particular, because berlusconi did so for several years. But its so nice obscene that he did so on the day of the US election - and that he didnt visit the US - ITALY foundation.
I mean I dont want to insinuate anything to Mr.berlusconi - but I think hed more like to see some kind of a fxxx shop than the US election. never mind though

ON the night of Barack Obama’s election as US president last November, Silvio Berlusconi, the Italian prime minister, threw a candlelit dinner party for three beautiful women at Palazzo Grazioli, his luxurious residence in Rome.

One of the guests, a former actress and escort girl called Patrizia D’Addario, 42, says he then asked her to stay the night. Not only that, but she claims to have taped the conversation that followed.

“Go and wait for me in the big bed,” the 72-year-old billionaire is said to have told her. He was going to have a shower and change into a bathrobe.

An extract from D’Addario’s tape that was leaked to an Italian newspaper and published yesterday shows that she replied: “Yes, the big bed.”

According to D’Addario, Berlusconi’s staff reminded him that he was expected at an election night rally organised by the Italy-USA Foundation, but the prime minister stayed at home. Officials informed him later of Obama’s victory.

The next day, D’Addario says, she and Berlusconi breakfasted together and he gave her a multicoloured tortoise encrusted with precious stones, declaring: “The tortoise is a special gift I give only to you.”

Germany: leftparty summit

Lafontaine treated several tropics. He stressed that the costs for the crisis cannot be socialized while future gains of banks are dedicated to a handful of people.

Another topic was social dem's scholz who announced in march that there won't be an increase of fees every worker has to pay into retirement funds. Instead, the fee was lifted recently for about 19,9% effective from 2010. The average worker pays 200€ more. Scholz wanted furthermore a weekly working time of 75h. Anyway, Lafontaine decried mostly that retirement funds dont pay more, that workers laid off dont get unemployment after a short while anymore but only social welfare and that the hourly wage is low while the working time is extended permanently.
He decried tax cuts for rich. he said people like to mention that rich people pay a lot income tax. But instead, states most income results out of sales tax, fuel tax and other taxes.
Mass taxes make most of the money and tax paybacks on income tax reach often 100% with the very rich. So Lafontaine didnt like the burden on the average worker but wanted to see the load directed at the rich.

(Before the EU vote) A party advertised with a woman (Koch Mehrin) who is mainly reknown for her absence in the European parliament with the text "work has to pay again."
A party, that declines the minimum wage! A party where bonework's taxed higher than bankers income what should be taxed with 25 percent according 2 the lib dems.

We want a lift of the maximum tax rate to 43% (for bankers and so on).
We want to kill cold progression! (It cant be like this that) with a small wage u pay a higher percantage of your income as taxes than (thru tax paybacks) rich people.

Times Online: Eyes turn on Bari

UPI: ROME, June 19 (UPI) -- A former escort and model says she secretly videotaped trysts with Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.

Patrizia D'Addario, who ran for the European parliament as a candidate for Berlusconi's People of Liberty Party, said she has given audiotape to police, The Independent reported Friday. She said she also has videotapes.

D'Addario gave an interview to the Italian daily Corriere delle Serra, which was published Thursday.

The Italian newspaper "Republica" published information about an "overheard" cynical remark of Italian PM, Silvio Berlusconi, to his Bulgarian counterpart, Sergey Stanishev.

The Bulgarian information agency, BTA, reports Saturday that according to the "Republica" article, a camera of the TV channel Sky caught a conversation between Stanishev and Berlusconi during a break at the EU leaders' summit in Brussels Friday.

The two, allegedly, talk about Dorina (the actual name is Darina) Pavlova - "the mysterious Bulgarian woman, one the wealthiest Eastern Europeans, who is said to be in intimate relations with Berlusconi, according to publications in Bulgarian media." (Darina Pavlova is the widow of Ilia Pavlov, one of the wealthiest Bulgarians, murdered in the murky times after the fall of Communism.)

"The truth is, Berlusconi, allegedly, told Stanishev, Pavlova has a fantastic daughter. And you know my interest in minors."

"Republica" presents the conversation as a sensational intimate confession Berlusconi made to Stanishev at times when the Italian PM is suffering daily attacks in the media about his preferences towards "young girls from the show business and politics."

Well, Piech had his doubts about a deal with Katar. Well, the reasons are obvious: if u r owned by an oil-producer, it's clear you don't produce fuel saving cars anymore. German Social Dems Systemic Failures worsening

Yeah, Im leftparty and the point is the following: the social dems are for longer in the desire to present themselves as a caretaker for big issues or maybe their statesmanship. Now at current theey are in a grand coalition with the consevatives and are completly unable to bind protest voters which are wandering to the lib dems what is astonishing to me cause free enterprise philosophies caused the current crisis. Anyway, Lib Dem head Westerwelle presents himself as opposition and Mr.Baum is still alive as far as I know. Furthermore, ecos and social dems pushed thru Hartz 4. The simple truth is thqat the worst reduction of German welfare wasnt dont done by the conservatives but by the social dems. The big percentage of no voters during the last election clearly proves that people think a shit will change. Now, its our duty to mobilize those voters and to make clear that the social dem attitude to presnt themselves as a party that is obviously in no need for left compromises is a wrong position. There are many facts right now which are pretty contra-current to current social dem positionss and I think we should take the chance to make clear that simply oversleeping a crisis is no guarantee for new left truths just because the social dems are at current in government. leftparty isnt, and that is completly sufficient for me.

HAMPTON, Va. (AP) — President Barack Obama's controversial former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, blamed "them Jews" in an interview this week for keeping him from speaking to the president, but later apologized.

Wright, the former pastor of Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ, said he hasn't spoken to Obama since he became president.

"Them Jews ain't going to let him talk to me. I told my baby daughter that he'll talk to me in five years when he's a lame duck, or in eight years when he's out of office," Wright told the Daily Press of Newport News following a Tuesday night sermon at the 95th annual Hampton University Ministers' Conference.

"They will not let him to talk to somebody who calls a spade what it is. ... I said from the beginning: He's a politician; I'm a pastor. He's got to do what politicians do."

Wright issued a statement Thursday that he was "disturbed and deeply saddened" that his comments were stirring discussion again.
