Colognes City archive 2

A former worker of Colognes city archive, an administrator of a section, Eberhard Illner, made hefty accusations against the responsible construction-administrators (of Colognes new subway). The breakdown of the house was a precalculable catastrophy said Illner in German-Radio/culture(

Deutschlandradio Kultur).

There were many clear warnings ahead of it.

'He himself observed sinking-rifts in the cellar of the building and he corresponded it to the top of the archive. Only last week there were hints for heavy rifts. Lately Colognes city administration confirmed to him that the hints were received.' "One has to see now who is responsible (for the disaster)."

'The damage is bigger than such as of the fire of Weimars Anna-Amalia-library.' said Illner. "Were speaking here of 18-storage-kilometers of most valuable archive goods of European scale." 'The main archive with a content of 1000 year old traditions of the city of Cologne was in the collapsed main building.' Furthermore there was a big part which consited of donations of writers and musicians and architects.' "I see this now in front of me under mountains of concrete and mountains of rubble. This is shaking," Illner said.
