Bush vetoes

dailykos
After letting it gather dust for the first five years of his presidency, George Bush has been getting a lot of use out of his veto pen. And once again he has used it to veto a popular bill with strong bipartisan support:

President Bush, escalating his budget battle with Congress, on Tuesday vetoed a spending measure for health and education programs prized by congressional Democrats.

So, let's see. He's vetoed stem cell research, a withdrawal timetable for Iraq, health care for children, education...but he did sign an:

...increase in the defense bill is devoted to procuring new and expensive weapons systems, including $6.3 billion for the next-generation F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, $2.8 billion for the Navy's DD(X) destroyer and $3.1 billion for the new Virginia-class attack submarine.
And of course, the increase for the defense budget doesn't include the $192 billion Bush wants to pay for his grand adventure in Iraq.
